I got another serious drubbing today at the hands of US 160

Summary: I got another serious drubbing today at the hands of US 160 when I started off it was not all that bad a pebbly surface that I ve encountered in Colorado as well I suppose it is used for its durability clearly it produces a lot of noise and friction but lacked the Grand Canyonesque cracks that did me in the day before   It was annoying but tolerable   And then there was a good 15 mile stretch of pristine smooth asphalt which I appreciated like never before   But about 25 miles from Tuba City back to pebbles and cracks worse than ever   After about 15 miles exhausted and devastated I stopped to rest   I actually did call information to get the number of the Arizona Department of Transportation but knew the folly of that and didn t pursue   It was so ruthlessly unpleasant if I had hit a stretch like that early in the trip I don t know how I would have responded   I cringed at the thought of doing another 10 miles of that to Tuba City not to mention continuing after that   I sat there on one of the wooden posts supporting a roadside guardrail changed socks sunblocked up drank deeply from my plentiful better managed water supply   I d never been so reluctant to get back on the bike I was afraid of damaging the bike and also of the danger of riding in the angry weakened state the road produced in me   Alternative   None   Back on the bike I got another serious drubbing today at the hands of US 160 when I started off it was not all that bad a pebbly surface that I ve encountered in Colorado as well I suppose it is used for its durability clearly it produces a lot of noise and friction but lacked the Grand Canyonesque cracks that did me in the day before   It was annoying but tolerable   And then there was a good 15 mile stretch of pristine smooth asphalt which I appreciated like never before   But about 25 miles from Tuba City back to pebbles and cracks worse than ever   After about 15 miles exhausted and devastated I stopped to rest   I actually did call information to get the number of the Arizona Department of Transportation but knew the folly of that and didn t pursue   It was so ruthlessly unpleasant if I had hit a stretch like that early in the trip I don t know how I would have responded   I cringed at the thought of doing another 10 miles of that to Tuba City not to mention continuing after that   I sat there on one of the wooden posts supporting a roadside guardrail changed socks sunblocked up drank deeply from my plentiful better managed water supply   I d never been so reluctant to get back on the bike I was afraid of damaging the bike and also of the danger of riding in the angry weakened state the road produced in me   Alternative   None   Back on the bike
