Do companies hire people (who need a one way rental car) to transport a car for them? I am making a trip with friends to california. We wanted to get a rental car one way, then fly home. A friend at work told me that years ago he got in touch with a car transport company, that actually "hired" him i guess you could call it, to deliver the car. He signed paper work, they filled it up with gas and told him where it needed to go. I put in a claim for my expenses (40p per mile) via my company or take cash from the service user depending on the arrangement the service user has with the company. The 40p per mile covers my petrol, general wear and tear and my business class 1 insurance. Does this make me a mini cab and would I need to register with TFL as one? Did You Know Complaining About The Lack Of Public Transport Is Not An Excuse To Justify Private Car Travel? All these people who complain that they need their cars because there is little or terrible public transport are missing the point. If more people were priced out of their motorised vehicles onto public transport then services will improve and become more frequent. So saying things like I need my car because I live out in the sticks and there is only one bus a day do not wash with me. The reason there is one bus a day is because the rise of private vehicular travel as people switched from public transport to cars. Garage didn't tighten the wheel nuts on 3 wheels on my car after a service - what are my rights? I had my car serviced on Saturday and nearly lost a wheel yesterday - it turned out they hadn't tightened the wheel nuts to 3 of the wheels! When it happened I had already driven over 45 miles on fast roads! Luckily I was on a quiet residential street when the wheel actually almost came off. I am devastated really as I am a teacher and would have been transporting children from my class 90 minutes later - it could have been awful. I am feeling rather lucky really. I called the garage when they opened and they sent the mechanic to sort it out. He apologised to my partner who stayed with the car for me as I had to get to my school, but I have had no apology - not when I initially spoke to their office or since. Open Vehicle Transport or Driveaway Service? I have to move my Ford Explorer SUV from Maryland to California and am trying to decide between having it hauled on an open transport for $1,000 to $1,200 (costs $300 to $500 more than driveaway service but saves 2,800 miles of wear on the engine) or hire a person to drive the vehicle (much cheaper, I've been quoted as low as $690, but will add about 2,800 miles to the odometer). Also hiring a driver will allow me to load more of my possessions in the back of the truck to save on the cost to ship my stuff to California. DOT regulations don't allow personal belongings to be loaded in vehicles on open transports. Trusting a driver from a driveaway service won't be an issue because there are ways of verifying their legitimacy, but of course accidents can still happen during the trip. Also my time is completely flexible so there is no urgency or deadline schedule for pick-up and delivery. I will be flying out separately. I know if I drove myself it would only cost about $500 for gas and maybe another $100 to $200 for food and lodging (optional). I just don't think I could withstand a 3,000 mile drive by myself in my car for 3 days without going insane. Thanks in advance for your experienced and educated answers. :-)

Moving from California to Maine - I need your input..? Okay so I am moving from southern california to maine.. I plan on moving in the fall, I would be transporting my dog in the fall or during the spring of the following year. My car lease ends in 2011 on Easter which to be honest I don't know what that means if I just return and pay during 2011 and if I can even return it to a dealer in Maine or anything so this is a big part of my yahoo question. Here are my options that I have considered: 1) Roadtrip to Maine, rent a uhaul to get my furniture and tow my car (08 Honda Civic). Cost = $2,700.00 for uHaul alone. + Gas, Food, Hotel 2) Fly to Maine, bring a couple boxes and get rid of my car magically before I leave. Cost = $500.00 (Taxi/Ticket/Hotel etc) + Dog transport 3) Fly to Maine, bring boxes and take my car with me by using a car transport service. Cost = $2,000.00 4) Drive my Car to Maine, sell my furniture and take what I can fit in my small car. Cost = $XXX.00 (Gas, Food, Hotel) Number 4 seems the most ideal, the problems I have are that I am bipolar, have telephobia, get panic attacks when driving, get leg cramps while driving, I have ADD so I become incredibly distracted, I have a real history of bad luck so something is going to go wrong no matter which route I take. Plus the car lease thing, I don't actually like my car so ideally I wanted to just get rid of the d@mned thing since I got it when I was 18 as a first buyers program from pressure from my stupid sister. If you are asking yourself why anyone would want to move from California to Maine, not everyone likes California plus there is someone in Maine.. I work online/at home so I could be in the middle of the ocean and still have a source of income. Are there other options, please let me know. More notes, I know I need to call Honda to find out what their input is. From the research I've done the dealership is very expensive and they make it almost impossible to terminate a lease early. Plus I kind of washed my phone in the washing machine. So right now my internet is connecting me to everyone. My life is pathetic, I know this. My mentioning of any medical problems is just petty information to help develop some sort of plan. I am just really nervous about this whole thing so I am just trying to see if anyone around the country has any input on the whole thing. New York Airport transfer from JFK to the Marriot Marquis hotel? I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent airport transport services that can take me from the airport to the hotel and then the reverse journey back to the airport in a few days later. I would like just transport for myself, I am aware it would be cheaper to get a shared car or bus but I would like to get straight to the hotel as soon as possible. Safe to visit Israel next weekend? I am flying into Tel Aviv next Friday, going to the Dead Sea for one night then two days/nights in Jerusalem and one night in Tel Aviv. How safe is it there right now? MY primary concern is getting from Tel Aviv to Dead Sea in that it appears that we will have to travel part of the way through the West Bank. We have hired a private car service to transport us there and my boyfriend tells me not to worry but being a blonde American woman makes me a bit worried. Also, many of the guidebooks say that you should obviously dress modestly when going to religious sites (Western wall, etc.). How about just walking around in Old City Jerusalem? Should I be concerned about keeping my head (blonde hair) covered? I feel like it is more of a security issue and as not to stand out in the crowd. Please advise...any thoughts on any of the above would be appreciated. Beside's Craig's List, where's a good place to find a driver with car for 300 mile trip with1 passenger? This would be to transport 1 adult, round trip, 150 miles each way, with 3 hour layover / wait time in the middle. Buses do not go to this destination. Taxi's and car service are prohibitively expensive and in very short supply in this area. Need a private citizen or other with a car and willingness to spend 5 hours driving with a 3 hour wait in the middle. Have already looked at Craig's List and there are no listings for this area (small town). Besides local classifieds in a newspaper that is almost dead / defunct, where else might a driver with car be recruited for an easy 1 day job?

Who is responsible for the repair of auto while in transport to seller? I sold a car for a friend's friend a couple of weeks ago via eBay. The buyer sent a cashiers check and after I took out my fee I paid the buyer for the car. In return I got the car and a title. A few days ago I was going to drive the car to meet the seller and the fuel pump went out. I had to get the auto towed to a local Firestone where the auto still resides. The fuel pump repair is $875. The seller will not pay for it as they say "I already got paid and signed over the title so it's your problem". The buyer wants a car that runs or his money back. The seller will not give the money back and told me it is my problem. Who is responsible to repair ther auto? Good or bad - no contract was drawn up for the services I provided in selling their car. On my way to deliver the car to the buyer is when the car shut down on me.

why is public transport soooo unreliable!!!? ok this isn’t really a question but im just so annoyed at the moment!! ive been stood at the smelly train station for over an hour and a half!!! and not one train turned up!! so i took down the complaints number and made a few calls when i got home!! turns out all trains are cancelled and they have been for the past week!!! i was so furious!! There was no notification for nothing!! had to put up with a chav smoking weed... i must have passively smoked 3 fags!! even though there are clear signs saying DO NOT SMOKE!! it stank of pee, was cold and started to rain again!! if its not the trains its the buses. is public transport going to improve, we're charged more than enough to use the services, its only right we get what we're paying for!! how does the government expect us to use public transport services to prevent global warming when they're not good enough. its so frustrating, people like me that don’t own a car or other forms of vehicle rely on public transport. Without them is like im prisoner in my own home!! Ok maybe not in my own home but my town, especially on a Saturday. Saturday = shopping day. No trains/slow buses=no shopping = no fun= boring miserable day!! to joolz....there should have been a replacement bus service but there wasn’t one that i knew of. And it’s only a small town station, with nothing but a little shelter, there isn't a ticket office, or anything like that, so there's nobody to report to. i actually rang up the timetable information line, where i was informed that the trains hadn't been running for a week, so i then rang the complaints line. Is the Hype round Alternative Fuel really just a Placebo to distract us..? from the a much easier solution? i.e. improving our public transport services, as buses, trains and minibus style taxis use just a tiny fraction of the fuel (per person) than cars use. No infrastructure would need to change, in the case of buses and taxis - the solution would take only months to manufacture, and only a couple of years to dramatically improve train services. It needs no technological development whatsoever. So is the hype just one more way of not doing something positive?

2003 Toyota Corolla LE Alarm shut off? I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla and am going to transport my car across the U.S. on a truck transport service. They require that you shut off the alarm so it won't go off when the truck encounters bumps. I can turn it off with the remote but it automatically turns itself back on in 30 seconds. Is there a way to disarm it without disconnecting the battery cable so that it will stay off until I rearm it when they deliver it. If I leave it on or if it goes off and they can't shut it off I would also drain my battery......HELP !!??
