Public Transport? Why is it that no matter where you go in mainland europe the public transport system is fantastic. Its clean, on time, cheap etc yet in the Uk its a dirty, smelly unpunctual load of rubbish. And why is it just in Britain that the drunken hoards seem to think its big to tip the contents of a dustbin accross the street on their way home whilst trying to wake up a whole town ? Good point SKULLPICKER (point; get it?) but logistically if we are having delays due to safety then they should be able to refect this in the timetables. If no trains should be within 4miles of each other near a town or city then they should not both be due into a station at the same time, that is a logistical impossability.
How is public transport in Australia going to handle carbon tax? As a person who uses public transport everyday. i am worryed about ticket pricing once this tax gets passed. Will it be more expensive? beacuse its already expensive enough when you think about it. Do you think that transport companys will get exempted from this or will they get hit and we will have to pay the price.

According to the PTC, the fares will be based on the actual distance travelled regardless of whether it is made on a direct trip or the number of transfers made. How will the changes in public transport fares benefit you from July 3? Share your views with us.

What is the risk of tuberculosis on public transport? I am doing a project. What is the risk of public transport with the exposure time being less than: 1 hour on a train? 1 hour total time on a number of different underground tubes throughout the day? Any help would be appreciated.
Is public transport really cheaper than driving with petrol prices at the moment? I found that a 10 minute car trip cost me $6 return by train. Would there be any chance that it would have cost $6 by car - I don't think so. Am I right or wrong? Also, if petrol goes up wouldn't bus fares rise as well to compensate the petrol increase? Has anyone actually switched to public transport due to petrol price?
Why does the government make public transport cost so much? Surely if the government would rather us use public transport than buy cars then they should make it free. Why pay for transportation that is poor quality, unreliable, dangerous and doesnt actually take you to where you have to go. The government is trying to encourage people to use public transport to 'save the planet' but they charge insane prices for it, surely if they want to make more people use it they should just make it more appealing by making it free, insted of upping the tax on absolutly everything they can possibly think of.
What songs are there about specific public transport services? I'm thinking about things like: Ferry Cross The Mersey (Gerry and the Pacemakers) London Underground (Amateur Transplants) I'm not looking for generic public transport where you can't work out where people are to at least the city level. Specific companies works reasonably well, too...

Is Public Transport becoming an ever increasing attractive option? Are we becoming more and more inclined to take advantage of public transport, due to rocketing fuel prices and the inevitable outcome of gridlock on the roads? Is it now a more convenient option, with such initiatives as 'off the bus' ticketing now available, where customers can purchase bus tickets at their convenience from a variety of locations?
How do I get from Newcastle Airport to Manchester Airport by public transport? Is there public transport in Wales besides Cardiff? Or do you need a car? I'm looking at applying to the Welsh universities Glamorgan and Bangor, but they seem to be in rural areas where one wouldn't expect there to be public transport available. Is this true? No need to get defensive, the US is developed as well, but there are certain states that have little or no public transport, like where I live in W. Texas- You really can't get around without a car.
Why do I dream of public transport so much? In most of my dreams I am either at a station, an airport, a port, or somewhere where there's public transport. I don't recall actually travelling on whatever vehicle it happens to be, at least not very often - it's more the process of getting on it that I dream about the most. Then there's always some random distraction that I have to take care of along the way before I can get onto the boat or plane or train. Can anyone explain to me what this is all about?

Can I sell my car and commute by bicycle/public transport effectively in Portland OR? I'm just finishing a PhD and looking into post docs at OHSU. Post docs pay notoriously low so I was thinking of selling my '94 Civic and getting around only by bicycle and public transport. I know Portland has a great cycling community with a strong infrastructure but how practical is it? Coming into work wet, smelly etc. would never be a good thing but I can see getting around it. Are their safe places to lock up a bike while in a bar or restaurant? Where would I live in the city that has transportation access and bike trails to everywhere? I'm coming from Glasgow Scotland so rain is no bother! Thanks if anyone has some input.
How Do You Feel About The Public Transport? How would you feel when the public transport you are waiting for is always packed with people which causes you pretty hard to get into it and sometimes you have to wait for another one? How would you like to express the unhappiness out? What would you probably do to let the govt. or whoever is incharging to aware the situation? OR, if you can improve the transportation system, what would you do?
Why is the Aust. Government not linking more towns with Public Transport? Public Transport should be like a spider web and not like the outlay of an octopus as it is in Australia. There are only railway lines from smaller cities going towards the big cities, but no webbing outside the city, connecting smaller towns together whithout having to go through the central city first. As an example, I cannot go in Victoria from the quite big city of Geelong to Ballarat by train and visa versa. No possibility either to go by train from Belgrave to Frankston I have to go to Melbourne first! What a missed opportunity to bring work and home closer together saving on cummuters cost. Work opportunities can be better created all around the central city than just clusterd in the central big City, if there was a better web of railway lines, avoiding all these cars and busses on the road. This now causes the need of a forever extending road network and unnecessary car exhaust fumes adding to airpollution and global warming.

Why is there no public transport in Arlington, TX? I am a student without a car and have joined UTA this fall. I wonder why there is no public transport facility at Arlington? Do you guys have any answers? Is there something that can be done to initiate something with, probably the mayor, or the city of arlington officials??
Why is it that people who have cars and never use public transport are always against? expanding it? Why don't they ever think of those of us who need it and would benefit from it? They don't want to be inconvienced by having to drive around the rails, etc as they are being constructed but they don't seem to complain about all the mess on the highways as more streets are made and in addition the expansion in the freeways makes it hard to be a pedestrian because no one bothers to preserve the sidewalks. Why don't people who are lucky enough to not have to depend on public transportation just shut and stop complaining about how increased public transport will interfer with their lives? in answer the person who said why pay for something you don't use, well I pay taxes so that welfare b***** can get free healthcare and handouts which I don't use, I also don't use the freeways either, but we are still taxed.
The reason people choose not to use public transport? I'm off to London on saturday for the day. Going early in morning coming home same day. There 4 of us going by train it'd be £60 return each from suffolk. But by car i can get there, Pay to park then tube it in. Total cast for the day £70. Thats for all 4 of us. And i'm guaranteed a seat. Public transport is a complete rip off. What reason do you have for not using it?? or Do you prefer it?? Why? BADMTS. Suffolk to London is only about 50-60 miles. So now you know how bad we have it. And you petrol is still very cheap compered to ours. We pay 93p a litre.
what is the website for normal UK public transport? could someone give me a link to a site for normal public transport in the UK? I'm looking to travel between Leeds and Stafford, Glasgow and Aberdeen, etc, and I want to use local public transport not luxury coaches! thanks.
Would you like proper public transport and childcare and decent jobs and healthcare and affordable housing ? Would this help you ? In Switzerland you will find: Public transport to every village. Why is public transport in England so expensive, when in the rest of Europe it is very cheap? Public transport in Britain is a joke. To take a 10 minute bus ride it cancost a staggering 2.50 and to take the train....well forget it, you need a mortgage! I wouldn't mind if it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience but usually it is not. I watched a programme recently about the train service and the inspectors did a one night inspection on one station and 50% of the travellers did not have the right ticket. The inspectors collected over 1000 pounds in extra fares!! If the train was cheaper then people would pay the correct fare.
