Is public transport really cheaper than driving with petrol prices at the moment? I found that a 10 minute car trip cost me $6 return by train. Would there be any chance that it would have cost $6 by car - I don't think so. Am I right or wrong? Also, if petrol goes up wouldn't bus fares rise as well to compensate the petrol increase? Has anyone actually switched to public transport due to petrol price?
What is the public transport like in Orlando, Florida? I don't have a driving licence so I'll be relying on public transport to get around. Is it reliable? Are there plenty of bus stops that go to the major areas? What are train services like? What is the best bus service? Any help would be appreciated!
How can we get from Schoenfeld to Jugendherberge am Wannsee using public transport? We will be arriving on Monday evening at the airport, and we need to get to "Jugendherberge Berlin - Am Wannsee". The address is: Badeweg 1 14129 Berlin - Zehlendorf We will be using public transport to get there (please don't suggest a taxi!). We don't mind if it's not a direct route, i.e. if we have to go into Berlin to get a bus to the Jugendherberge. However, we'd really like to know the route number and where to catch it. Thank you!
Can you help me with public transport from airport to alstadt ? I will have a lay over in Dussledorg Germany for about 6 or 7 hours. Why do I dream of public transport so much? In most of my dreams I am either at a station, an airport, a port, or somewhere where there's public transport. I don't recall actually travelling on whatever vehicle it happens to be, at least not very often - it's more the process of getting on it that I dream about the most. Then there's always some random distraction that I have to take care of along the way before I can get onto the boat or plane or train. Can anyone explain to me what this is all about?

Can I sell my car and commute by bicycle/public transport effectively in Portland OR? I'm just finishing a PhD and looking into post docs at OHSU. Post docs pay notoriously low so I was thinking of selling my '94 Civic and getting around only by bicycle and public transport. I know Portland has a great cycling community with a strong infrastructure but how practical is it? Coming into work wet, smelly etc. would never be a good thing but I can see getting around it. Are their safe places to lock up a bike while in a bar or restaurant? Where would I live in the city that has transportation access and bike trails to everywhere? I'm coming from Glasgow Scotland so rain is no bother! Thanks if anyone has some input.
Why is the Aust. Government not linking more towns with Public Transport? Public Transport should be like a spider web and not like the outlay of an octopus as it is in Australia. There are only railway lines from smaller cities going towards the big cities, but no webbing outside the city, connecting smaller towns together whithout having to go through the central city first. As an example, I cannot go in Victoria from the quite big city of Geelong to Ballarat by train and visa versa. No possibility either to go by train from Belgrave to Frankston I have to go to Melbourne first! What a missed opportunity to bring work and home closer together saving on cummuters cost. Work opportunities can be better created all around the central city than just clusterd in the central big City, if there was a better web of railway lines, avoiding all these cars and busses on the road. This now causes the need of a forever extending road network and unnecessary car exhaust fumes adding to airpollution and global warming.

Why is it that people who have cars and never use public transport are always against? expanding it? Why don't they ever think of those of us who need it and would benefit from it? They don't want to be inconvienced by having to drive around the rails, etc as they are being constructed but they don't seem to complain about all the mess on the highways as more streets are made and in addition the expansion in the freeways makes it hard to be a pedestrian because no one bothers to preserve the sidewalks. Why don't people who are lucky enough to not have to depend on public transportation just shut and stop complaining about how increased public transport will interfer with their lives? in answer the person who said why pay for something you don't use, well I pay taxes so that welfare b***** can get free healthcare and handouts which I don't use, I also don't use the freeways either, but we are still taxed.
The reason people choose not to use public transport? I'm off to London on saturday for the day. Going early in morning coming home same day. There 4 of us going by train it'd be £60 return each from suffolk. But by car i can get there, Pay to park then tube it in. Total cast for the day £70. Thats for all 4 of us. And i'm guaranteed a seat. Public transport is a complete rip off. What reason do you have for not using it?? or Do you prefer it?? Why? BADMTS. Suffolk to London is only about 50-60 miles. So now you know how bad we have it. And you petrol is still very cheap compered to ours. We pay 93p a litre.

Why is public transport in England so expensive, when in the rest of Europe it is very cheap? Public transport in Britain is a joke. To take a 10 minute bus ride it cancost a staggering 2.50 and to take the train....well forget it, you need a mortgage! I wouldn't mind if it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience but usually it is not. I watched a programme recently about the train service and the inspectors did a one night inspection on one station and 50% of the travellers did not have the right ticket. The inspectors collected over 1000 pounds in extra fares!! If the train was cheaper then people would pay the correct fare.
