Can you buy individual pieces of furniture from American Freight? Can I buy just a mattress from American Freight or do I have to buy it as part of a bedroom set? In their ads it always lists the prices for when the mattress is bought as a part of a three piece set, but I was wondering if for a higher price I could just buy a mattress. Thanks!!
What is the reputation of American Freight? I'm looking to buy some furniture from american freight becuase of the great prices they offer.....im wondering if theyre well built products...does anyone know about the quality of their furniture??
Can you really get 18 pieces of furniture from American Freight for $798? I mean I am sure for legal reason if they advertised it they have to honor the offer. But has anybody ever done this ? Were you happy with what you recieved?
Has American Freight of Ohio ripped you off (no category found)? Also known as American Freight Furniture Company. I was ripped off. I purchased a mattress and box springs a couple weeks ago. The box springs is a cardboard box with a mattress cover on it put together with particle board which had no springs at all in it. The day the bedroom suite was to be delivered was told it was not on the transfer truck because it was sold at another location. So, I went and got my money refunded to my debit card. The $120 that I paid cash for the layaway is suppose to come in 3 -4 more weeks. You can go to http://www.ripoffreport.com and type in the company's name (both names are listed) to hear more about this company. Would like to hear other stories and how to go about closing them down for stealing from people. I didn't get my money back for the broken box springs and still waiting for a replacement they promised.
Where can I find the movie "Freight Trains Across the American West"? Most preferably a DVD version, but VHS will do.

North American freight train fans! Locomotive ID? Near Hamilton, Canada I saw a triple header freight on a CP track One of the engines was sky blue(turquoise?) on the front and side of the cab with an orange stripe (horizontal rectangle; maybe a logo) on the engine part It was far away and very grungy (disconiued scheme or defunct rail line?) I am pretty sure it was NOT a CSX locomotive. I see freight from all over the USA and Canada here, though. Any ideas??

How many people are in a freight train crew these days? Is there still a fireman? A conductor? In the old days there was a caboose at the end of a long freight train, which I assume contained a conductor or a relief crew or something (?). What is there now? Are trains ever run with just the engineer and nobody else? And how did crews in the caboose ever communicate with the engineer and fireman, in the days when that existed? I'm mainly interested in American railroad practices.
Anybody remember the company called American Freightways? Now Called Fed Ex freight...? I have collected lots of old American freightways things the past 2 years and wondering what they might be worth. Is there a website that can tell me that? Thanks. Stll water runs deep??? Explain
What law are American ships governed by once they have left the port? I'm researching hypothetical sea colonies and I came across the problem that a sea colony wouldn't have a large enough population to have its own local government and would probably be governed a lot like the way a freight ship or a cruise ship is governed. By what laws are American ships governed by and what if they are in international waters?
The great American dream nothing but a joke to the Bush administration? Allowing 100 Mexican trucking companies to haul freight anywhere in the United States starting Thursday! This is going to destroy the American trucking industry. Not to mention the flood of illegal drugs that will be shipped to America, which will devestate millions of lives. All to save a buck. Comments? Very true Peep, we have a left, and right wing of the corporate class.
Who should shoulder the blame for the collapse of the North American auto industry? I blame the following from most to blame to least to blame: 1) Unions: unsklled assembly workers getting $70000+ a year to do something a monkey could do. Theres your problem. How can any company survive with these greedy slackers? Companies have been forced to put cheaper parts in their cars leading to a lower quality, just to finance these insane wages for a bunch of greedy unions. 2) Design: Concerntrating on SUV's and really doing nothing new with their car designs in the last 20 years has meant that N.A. auto manufacturers have no longer got the attention of car buyers. They seem boring. 3) Oil prices: Killed whatever buying of SUV's was keeping the companies afloat. Also increased their freight costs, their raw materials costs etc. 4) Import ingenuity: Lets face it; Toyota, Hyundai, Honda etc. have simply cut the fat, streamlined operations, designed well around consumer needs, and have great cars at a great price.
Do American Citizens really want to work? I have been trying to hire CDL Owner Operators and having some poor results. Im retired myself and cannot believe the lack of interest. I have a minimum age requirement of 23 years old. Equal oppurtunity employer. I operate in all 48 States. Specialized freight company nationwide all 48 States in the USA . Any thoughts on this matter?
Which company is credited with making the last american built steam locomotive? My wife and I have recently discovered steam locomotives and were wondering which company is credited with making the last steam locomotive in these United States. We seem to find various answers but none that actually answer the question. Maybe if I define it better by saying the last one capable of pulling a long freight or passenger train.
Why do I see, for example, BNSF locomotives on tracks in eastern NY which are owned by Pan American? Does this mean that today's class 1 railroads pay to use tracks owned by other railroads? Or do they temporarily lease locomotives to other railroads? If so, is that why I see locomotives from more than one railroad pulling freight? Seems like railroad operations were simpler 40 years ago but I realize they are much more efficient and therefore profitable now. Thanks!
Frustration about the lack of American passenger trains? I live in southern Indiana and would like to take a train to Indianapolis some days, but alas, there exsists no passenger train route (even though a freight route does exsist). Europe has a much more established train system that seems to allow anyone to get almost anywhere. Is anyone else frustrated with the poor infrastructure of passenger train route in America? What can I, as a citizen, do about this?
What are your thoughts on the so called NAFTA Super Highway? An agreement to build a huge16 lane highway starting on Mexicos west coast and ending in central Canada was reached in 2004 by President Bush, Vincinte Fox, and then P.M Martin. Naturally America will be footing the bill for this project. My thoughts on it are that goods will be shipped in from the east (taking away American manufacturing jobs), recieved by Mexican dock workers(avoiding the longshoremans union, and American freight handlers), and shipped by Mexican truckers(eliminating American truckers). Would you agree that this sounds like Bush selling America out at the tax payers expense. I wonder how much "W" stands to pocket off this deal. Construction of this highway has already started in Texas by the way.
British vs North American railroad terminology? I am curious and wish to learn other differences between American and British railroad terminology. Not slang so much as interchangeable terms. Some British counterparts to US terminology I'm already familiar with includes the following: bogey = trucks guard = conductor shunting track = siding points = switch sleeper = cross tie goods train = freight train carriage = passenger car or freight car Does anyone have more examples or corrections / clarification on these? Thanks all.
Now that Mexican Truck Drivers are allowed to haul freight anywhere in the United States, how will this effect American truck drivers? Will American families be devestated due to massive imports of Meth? Why is this happening?
After all the good the American People and our Government has done for the good of Humanity in the world. Why? is it that these third world ingrates and the fancy pants in these civilized lands are always ready to shoot us down at the least suspect of wrong doing? Every civilization has had bad governments and we have had a few losers in office true, but really? People have electricity because of Ben Franklin. We have taken in every immigrant from anywhere and we pay their weight and freight and medical as well. Why are we sitting back and allowing us to slam us up against the wall constantly every chance they get? Is it Jealousy and Greed? Or down right ungrateful pathetic ignorant people or both? Europe would never have survived WW II without us either. I am not trying to offend but really? Is this a world of what you have given me lately? short term memories? And why not help us and be humane rather than the I hate you mentality? All comment welcome without cursing please?
A business will not give me a refund what can I do as a customer.? I had a layaway in @ American Freight and had changes in my situation so can't afford to get new furniture and want my money back. They said after 10 days no money back. What can I do as a customer?
Teachers: what contributed to the American National IQ average sinking to 98? This to me is somewhat freighting and would like to hear your views on it. Thanks!
Mexico deports thousands of Central American migrants? The Mexican government sent hundreds of federal police and soldiers Tuesday to clear out the migrants, who for decades have hopped freight cars on the Chiapas-Mayab railway. The company has run freight trains on two sets of tracks in southern Mexico - one that passes near Guatemala's northern jungle, and another that goes from the Guatemalan border up the western coast. See link - http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0815mexico-migrants0815-ON.html Question - What are your thoughts ?

Should we not also have high speed rail since it will wreak havoc on the freight rail system? Problem No. 1 is the havoc high-speed rail could wreak on our freight-rail system, with which many of the proposed routes share trackage. Subsidy-free and profitable since deregulation, as The Economist reported recently, the freight-rail companies own most rail tracks and are one of the country’s economic and environmental crown jewels. Freight rail moves goods cheaply, efficiently, and with a carbon footprint smaller than that of any other form of transportation. European trains, meanwhile, with which high-speed-rail advocates compare the American system invidiously, move almost no freight. They move people, and require subsidies to do so. Evidently, the administration thought it could build medium-to-high-speed rail on the cheap in most of the U.S. by making Amtrak trains run more frequently, increasing their speed to 110 miles per hour, and sponging off the freight system. Here’s the problem: The more passenger trains on a given rail corridor, the fewer freight trains, and the administration envisions massive numbers of new trains. Since passenger trains have to meet schedules, they take priority. The faster a passenger train travels, the more freight it displaces. According to The Economist, “One Amtrak passenger train at 110 MPH will remove the capacity to run six freight trains (which travel 50 MPH) in any corridor.” And in many areas, freight rail is already at capacity, and will require more investment to keep up with expected growth. You’ve read a lot about those mean old Republican governors, Ohio’s John Kasich and Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, who turned down free money, Obama money, for high-speed rail because the state would get stuck with a big part of the costs. Iowa, Florida, and Michigan are considering following suit, according to Fred Frailey of Trains magazine. Frailey also points out that in many cases, freight-rail companies need to build more sidings and even double tracks to accommodate high-speed rail. The costs are enormous. Negotiations between the federal government and freight-rail companies in North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington State are stalled over how much more capacity is needed, and who’s going to pay for it. If the federal government doesn’t pick up the tab, excess costs could be passed along to consumers in the form of higher freight rates, which in turn will impact the price of energy and manufactured goods. Running high-speed rail on existing tracks also opens the door to re-regulation of the freight-rail business. Already, under President Bush, Congress mandated that freight systems spend an estimated $18 billion on safety systems designed to prevent passenger-freight collisions like the one in California that killed 25 and injured 135 — systems the industry says are largely ineffective and unnecessary. That’s the start of a slippery slope; the federal government will intrude more and more as a mediator between a dull but efficient freight system and a politically popular but deficit-ridden passenger-rail project. We know how that’s going to turn out. http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/259509/high-speed-rail-boondoggle-lou-dolinar @Jigi. Learn to read FAIL
want a job in American Express, Gurgaon? Any Graduate, The story of American Express is a fascinating one, filled with interesting and sometimes quirky characters who -- through a combination of brains, perseverance and luck -- shaped the company's development during the past century and a half. The express company that forwarded freight and valuables evolved into a company that created and sold financial products like money orders and travelers cheques. Following an era of international expansion, the company became an entity perhaps best known for its charge card. Today, American Express is a global payments company.

Can You Believe This Cheap Mexican airlines are taking Mexican right to our border for illegal immigration? MEXICALI, Mexico - Among travelers, it's jokingly known as Aeromigrante - Migrant Air. New discount airlines in Mexico are doing a brisk business shuttling migrants to the U.S. border, turning what was once a days-long trek into an easy hop for legions of workers, both legal and illegal. "It's much more comfortable than the bus and about the same price," said Leopoldo Torres, 37, of Mexico City, as he stretched his legs aboard Volaris Flight 190 to the border city of He and a traveling companion, Julio Menéndez, paid $118 each for the three-hour flight. They planned to cross into the United States illegally through the California desert. Such migrants have become bread-and-butter customers for airlines Volaris, Avolar, Alma, Viva Aerobus, Interjet and Click, all of which have started up in the past two years. Older carriers such as Aero California and Aviacsa have cut their own prices to compete. "The most productive routes we have are cities where you have those passengers who are traveling with the idea of the American Dream," said Luis Ceceña, a spokesman for Avolar. About 70 percent of Avolar's passengers are migrants, he said. For some airlines like Avolar, the emphasis on migrant travel was a conscious decision, with company officials structuring their routes and fares around migrants' needs, he said. For others, it was simply a side effect of low prices, which have opened up air travel to millions of poorer Mexicans. The airlines say they treat migrants like any other passengers. The Mexican government has promised to try to slow emigration by creating jobs in Mexico. But by law, Mexican authorities and companies cannot impede the free travel of their fellow citizens, even if they suspect they are going to cross the U.S. border illegally. Heading for the desert Travelers planning to cross illegally are easy to spot. At the Hermosillo airport, a major crossroads for migrants headed to the Arizona desert, they are the men traveling in groups of three and four, wearing new sneakers or hiking boots and carrying nothing but backpacks. "Altar! Naco! Nogales!" taxi dispatcher Javier Montaño shouted outside the airport as he directed travelers to vans headed to the main staging grounds for illegal border crossers. Because of the increased traffic, Mexican immigration agents now check the IDs of all arriving passengers, even on domestic flights, to try to catch Central American migrants headed to the border. In Hermosillo, federal police conduct spot checks on the vans before they leave the airport. "By law, we can't stop the Mexican (migrants)," police Officer Carlos Zequera Arias said. "But the Central Americans are starting to get on these flights, too." Falling prices Until the flood of discount airlines began in 2005, air travel in Mexico was too expensive for most poor Mexicans. A one-way flight from central Mexico to Tijuana ran $300 or more on the country's two flag carriers, Aeromexico and Mexicana. For most migrants, getting to the border meant days of travel on long-distance buses - or for the very poor, a harrowing and illegal ride on Mexico's railways while clinging to a freight car. The discount airlines cut costs by copying the business model of U.S. carrier Southwest Airlines. They fly out of smaller airports, make several stops on the same trip, bypass travel-agent fees by selling directly to customers, and concentrate on a few high-volume routes instead of a hub-and-spoke system. Typical fares to Tijuana from Toluca, just east of Mexico City, are now around $150 on the discount airlines. That has opened up air travel to millions of new customers, said José Calderoni, marketing director for Volaris. About one-third of the airline's passengers have never flown before, he said. Overall, the number of Mexicans flying has jumped 36 percent since 2004. About 13.4 million people took domestic flights from January to June, according to Mexico's Institute of Statistics, Geography and Information Processing. The discount airlines have been adding planes and routes at a breakneck pace. Avolar has grown from one jetliner and three destinations to nine with 16 destinations. Viva Aerobus has 21 destinations and plans to double its fleet to 10 jets from five. Interjet has nine planes and says it will order 20 more. Alma has 15 regional jets and 25 destinations, Volaris has 12 planes and 17 destinations, while Click has 26 destinations with 18 planes and six on order. Who's the Best American Prospect for the Heavyweight Title? Boxing is in the shitter right now. It's the old rule of thumb, the condition of the sport is wholly dependent on the condition of its premier division: the big boys. Does anyone else think the American commuter rail systems are brilliant? I ask because all I ever heard when I was in the US, and had to use the MBTA and even more so the MARC systems, was criticism of them, and I don't understand it. I loved them! I love the way the staff were nearly always friendly and ready to talk, the amount of comfort and legroom, and the sheer eccentricity and impracticality of the whole thing - the use of giant freight locomotives for a few carriages, the way at some places you'd get off straight down onto a level crossing on which the train had stopped, and the arrangement at low platforms with the trapdoors and steps the conductors had to operate manually and therefore only as many doors opened as conductors - also meaning you always got a friendly word from the conductor as you got on and off. The whole thing was very American and had a whole ton more character than our boring British trains. Sure, you had to stand sometimes, but you do everywhere in the world! Is anyone with me in this? :)
Do you agree with Amnesty International: "Mexico Failing to Protect Central American Migrants"? "Amnesty: Mexico failing to protect Central American migrants" http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/320914,amnesty-mexico-failing-to-protect-central-american-migrants--feature.html Frank Fuhrig Wed, 28 Apr 2010 Washington/Mexico City - Amnesty International issued a scathing report Wednesday documenting the Mexican government's failure to protect Central American migrants passing through Mexico bound for the United States. Criminal gangs prey on the migrants, who come mostly from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, and preventing or prosecuting such crimes against foreigners is a low priority for state and federal authorities, the report said. "In many cases that would appear at first glance to be the work solely of criminal gangs, there is evidence that state officials are involved at some level, either directly or as a result of complicity or acquiescence," the human-rights group wrote. The report, Invisible Victims: Migrants on the Move in Mexico, was compiled by Amnesty International representatives from 2008-09, through interviews with migrants, local human rights activists, Mexican authorities and others. It describes the trip that migrants take along the length of Mexico, often riding on top of freight trains, where they have become targets for bandits and extortion gangs. Migrants in Mexico are facing a major human rights crisis leaving them with virtually no access to justice, fearing reprisals and deportation if they complain of abuses," said Rupert Knox, Mexico researcher at Amnesty International.
What online shop has the largest range of American Football Equipment? I'm not from US, and I want to buy some equipment for a American Football team. The problem is, must online companies only have black/white helmets in stock. I need Royal blue. When I finally finds a company that has all the items I need, their lame company policy ruins everything, "We don't ship outside of US", "We don't ship to freight forwarding company", "We don't accept credit cards outside US", please help, there must be a "normal" online shop I US for football equipment that wants to earn money.
How long until Americans are sneaking into Russia for better opportunities? It wouldn't be that hard from what I understand and I do not think that Americans in 20 years from now will think that they are too good to be stow-aways on freight ships and airplanes...or canoes across the Bering Straight.
if its all from china does it matter what brand i buy? ive always preferred american made products but they are getting harder and harder to find, some times i have to buy the dreaded made in china product (which is almost everything), and i was wondering does it make any difference if i buy the made in china product from sears, harbor freight or the 99c store?
name that tune [industrial music, could be COIL]: cat-like screech, as if recorded in empty metalic chamber...? an added clue to this shocking scary instrumental track, is that i seem to remember the track immediately preceding it featured a track with a "sampled" welsh male voice choir, and of those bursts of sound that signified the ending of a shift...reminiscent of those lonesome blasts of an american freight trains horn. i'm sure the track only last about a minute. ii wonder if it could be anything to do with the supposedly ultra scary sounds of the unreleased themes for hellraiser. maybe this is a red herring, but i thought i'd throw it into the mix.
The U.S. government just allowed Mexican truck drivers to haul freight anywhere in the U.S..? How do U.S. truckers feel about this? What about the massive drugs that will be flooding into American now? Why is the government doing this to us? Arvis it may not seem that Mexican truckers have a connection to the drug trade. But to increase their income a big majority of them will smuggle illegal drugs along with their freight.
What are the most commonly used preshipment test procedures sponsored by? a) Association of American Railroads b) American Society for Testing and Materials c) Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry d) ISO 9000 e) National Motor Freight Association
American history question PLEASE HELP!!!!? 21) How did the railroad both help and hurt the settlers who sought opportunities in the West, and how did farmers respond? think about: freight and storage rates, the grange, and farmers cooperatives
What a bunch of hypocrites Mexican authorities are. It is OK for them to deport illegals but not the US???? Just what is wrong with that picture? The closure of an American-run railroad in Mexico stranded thousands of U.S.-bound Central American migrants near the Guatemala border and many of them were deported Wednesday by immigration authorities. Some camped along rail lines waiting for trains that will never come. Others tried to walk hundreds of kilometers (miles) to the next working rail line and some turned themselves in to Mexican authorities. The government sent hundreds of federal police and soldiers Tuesday to clear out the migrants, who for decades have hopped freight cars on the Chiapas-Mayab railway. The company has run freight trains on two sets of tracks in southern Mexico — one that passes near Guatemala's northern jungle, and another that goes from the Guatemalan border up the western coast. In late July, the Connecticut-based Genesee & Wyoming Inc. withdrew from a 30-year concession to operate the Chiapas-Mayab line. Company spokeswoman Jeanette Rosado said damage to railway tracks caused by a 2005 hurricane forced the pullout. She also said rail workers had been assaulted, and that train-hopping migrants delayed operations and cost the company money.Mexico's National Immigration Institute did not respond to requests for comment. Central American consulates said extra buses had been contracted to transport deportees from immigration detention centers to the border. Thousands more migrants were stuck at the town of Ariaga in neighboring Chiapas state, and Salvadoran Consul Nelson Cuellar said many had started walking toward a rail line in Coatzacoalcos, almost 500 kilometers (300 miles) away. "That is a marathon walk" through countryside where the threat of being assaulted or robbed is constant, he said. The railroad's closure may lead more migrants to hire smugglers, who often transport them in trucks. Police recently found several trucks filled with people crammed into hidden compartments, often without adequate air or water. Franciscan brother Juan Pablo Chavez Vargas, who runs a shelter for migrants in Tenosique, said smugglers and others who profit from the flow of migrants have encouraged them to keep coming. "They are telling them, 'The train will come, just wait. The train will come,'" Chavez Vargas said. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/08/15/america/LA-GEN-Mexico-Stranded-Migrants.php
Which are the current container freight port cities on the US West Coast? I live in New Zealand, and am considering importing American cars (old ones, like 1970s Firebirds and Trans Ams, Camaros). Mostly for myself, but it could turn into a business. I would like to find out which cities along the US west coast ship out trans-Pacific cargo containers, because I would then start looking for these cars in those cities. Is it still Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, and L.A.? Would be great if the people I liaise with could simply drive the cars down to the docks and put them straight into containers, that would save a lot of hoo-ha.
Putting emotion aside, would a "NAFTA Superhighway" help the American economy? The original idea of the NAFTA superhighway was a high-quality, high-capacity road, freight-rail, passenger rail, pipeline, and electric/broadband transmission corridor. It would extend from the port of Lazaro Cardenas on Mexico's Pacific coast past Mexico City, then up across the border at Brownsville (Texas), continue up toward a major inland processing facility about 20 miles outside of Kansas City, then it would split into two "spurs" - one headed north to Winnipeg, and the other heading northeast past Chicago and eventually toward Toronto and the East Coast. This would be a high-speed corridor with limited access points. It would avoid major cities by about 20 miles, meaning that local traffic would not really use it. It would handle a lot of freight - in fact, some proposals call for six rail lines (3 in each direction - 2 for freight; one for passengers). Putting emotions aside, if we actually built this thing, would it improve the economy of the US by making transit a lot faster and more efficient? If so, why do people oppose it?
Help with finding rocawear store? Hi i wanted to go to this rocawear store which i found using the store locater at rocawear.com(http://www.rocawear.com/locator.php). The results were: Stores in Washington: Dog House Urban Wear 391 Columbian Center Blvd. Kennewick WA 99336 Lace 'Em Up American Fast Freight Company Tacoma WA 98421 Dog House Urban Wear 2529 Main Street Union Gap WA 98903 I want to go to Lace 'Em Up, but when i typed in the address in google maps, a delivery company came up. About what is cost of shipping an appliance from Guam to the Philippines? I am considering buying a dishwasher in Guam and having it shipped to the Philippines. Has anyone shipped a large item from Guam, and what was the cost? What freight company did you use? Is it considered duty free? Is the 50% customs duty charged? I have been told that most American stores, like Home Depot are on the island.
Using the US Playstation 3 in Australia? I am strongly considering buying the US version of the PS3 rather than the AUS PS3 on the basis: * $600 US = about $750 AUS, not the $1,000 it costs here. * I believe the AUS version was cut down vs US version? * I mainly play american sport games and some of these dont get release in Australia so I've previously missed out. So I am fully aware that I incur freight costs of about $100 and will need a power adapter and rectifier (say $100)... and I will only be able to use US games (which at about $75 australian dollars come at a $25 saving again!!) does anyone know of any other significant problems for which I should hold back on doing this?
How can we stop Intolerable Behaviour? Yes there have been horrid events throughout history and a lot of war crimes are happening by other forces allied and not allied with the Americans. There are horrible slaughters happening throughout Africa especially However, the US was a leader in the creation of the Nuremberg principles as well as the Geneva Conventions. Therefore we ought to expect the American government and military to follow these principles and rules of war. Iraq and Afghanistan are not the only places the US has been guilty of gross misconduct while, at the same time, arresting and detaining others for violation of these principles and conventions. You must remember that these treaties America has helped forges are American law under the US Constitution. America is violating these laws in a big way. These are not minor indiscretions. These are huge acts of violence. Just think of the siege upon Fallujah in 2004. This City of Mosques was bombed, which included White Phosphorous and carpet bombs that are considered indiscriminate bombs, for four days straight. The Americans bombed out 70% of the city which included homes, businesses, mosques and killed children, mothers, fathers, grand parents. Then the military released its ground forces for eight days and gave them Free Fire orders (basically means to shoot anyone, any age) This one episode is just chalk full of war crime most of which went unreported as 'embedded' reporters were told to stay away. An embedded reporter wears a military uniform and does what he/she is told. Some regular reporters did go in and reported snipers on hospitals shooting at wounded trying to get help, ambulances riddled with bullets children coming to small clinics with phosphorous still burning deep beneath the skin. Emergency operations done by the light of cigarette lighters as electricity had been shut off as with the water - no anesthetics, no antibiotics. There is so much more to describe and this is only part of what should be reported in the "unreported war". Then there is Afghanistan where 8,000 Taliban gave up and over half were murdered. This is because the US, knowingly, chose to ally itself with a notorious killer General Dostum of the Afghan Norttern Alliance. But not only his soldiers have been implicated but there are many witnessed executions done by American hands, not just of the alliance they were leading. Hundreds of prisoners were loaded into freight containers and put on the backs of trucks in the hot sun in conditions so crowded they could do nothing but stand. This is a very gruesome story which will appear on my website. There will also be a piece about the Invasion of Panama where 26,000 American forces went in to get Noriega for "Drug Smuggling"! Apartment buildings were bombed into collapse falling upon sleeping inhabitants. There was no reason for this invasion whatsoever. But justice has never been applied to Panama. It's quite gruesome and will make you think. http://intolerablebehaviour.premium.ws/ mnwoman -- but perhaps we can create an atmosphere of less war and less war crimes in these wars. We'd all be better off without the US starting wars outright and surepticiously via the CIA terrorists. mnwoman -- but perhaps we can create an atmosphere of less war and less war crimes in these wars. Judy Rabbit - I'm sorry but I know very little about excepting that England, France, the Netherlands destroyed thousands of tribal lines to arbitrarily draw up countries. The repercussions here seem unstoppable. I do know that The US is vying for oil on the continent and are, probably one of the countries dumping dangerous waste in various locals. You can send me some information but my main thrust now is the Middle East where the war crimes are out in the open as if to challenge anyone to complain, Also, I am investigating the reality of the turmoil throughout Latin and South America which was never touched upon in school. It's so bad that our education is far from truthful. celeb.. It's nice that you have the freedom to make choices in your life. It would be very good if more people could have that chance. But, the US, while it claims to work toward democracy and freedom they are lying and doing just the opposite. Millions of people through the past few decades have been disallowed any chance to live healthy and at peace. The great USA has stripped every thread of possibility from these people who don't really need a whole lot to be happy. Perhaps from your well cushioned seat of life you could set aside some time and effort to save some one's freedom. I hope you think about this. http://intolerablebehaviour.premium.ws http://intolerablebehaviour.active.ws Try the Geographic Challenge Sign the Guest Book http://www.worldlandtrust.org/supporting/donation.htm Peace philipk--- Of course not.
Why aren't any presidential candidates taking on the oil companies? Last year the Justice Department finished a long term attack on the Airlines for Collusion "price fixing" the charges and subsequent civil suit centered around airlines conspiring together to all raise air fairs at the same time. This was followed by similar charges centered around air freight. September 2006 American, United and US Air all reached settlements. As clear as the evidence was that price fixing was in play, it pales in comparison to the way oil companies are currently in collusion to control prices at the pumps while recording record profits. Collusion is a felony, are all candidates on both sides of the aisle on the take or are they just afraid to tackle the issue that is hitting all of us in the wallet?
What is driving U.S. companies to outsource abroad? I don't believe it is deficiencies in American workers, lack of interest, education or the availability of skills in other countries that are driving companies abroad. Why don't companies consider outsourcing certain types of work to American Indians? Building infrastructure in some of the most impoverished regions of the U.S. seems to be a very good idea . . . not to mention the tax benefits, easily trainable workforce, freight cost savings, and much more . . .
What was the craziest story you heard that came out of Katrina? Many of us read the American Heritage presentation of this nations 10 worst disasters, I am sure. http://www.americanheritage.com/places/articles/web/20060905-natural-disasters.shtml And many of you know first, (or second) hand of a wild and wooly event that settled around Katrina. The Carnegie, Mellon, and Henry Clay Frick's South Fork Hunting and Fishing Club dam breaking flood disaster in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, back in 1889 made me remember what my cousin described to me regarding a previous neighbor of his. "It was not recognizable as water, it was a dark mass in which seethed houses, freight cars, trees, and animals"..... After weeks of trying to locate he and his family, I was finally able to contact his son who was living in Naples, Florida, which you will recall got hit with another hurricane not a month after Katrina. His son had gone up to help his father after Katrina hit. To be continued....in additional details. I don't recall which one told me the story, but a previous neighbor of my cousins, who lived right on the beach at Pass Christian where Katrina made landfall, decided to just ride the storm out, as he and natives in the area had done for decades before. When Katrina hit, it took his home off its pilings (twenty foot telephone poles sitting out of the ground - above ground - so as to handle such things as high tides) and swept he and his house inland. The man, in his seventies, managed to crawl out of a window and on to his roof as his house moved inland?? Eventually the roof separated from the house, and he rode the roof to Bay St. Louis, 15 miles away where he was rescued. What ever happened to the man after that, I don't know.
Could I please get some feed back on this paper? APA format, How is the writing, Should it have more info etc. Modern day slavery also known as “human trafficking.” Traffickers look for individuals who are poor, unemployed, or families that are in high debt, mainly women and children in certain countries. Victims are convinced with false promises of a good job and a better way of living, and then forced to work under abusive and inhuman conditions. Victims of trafficking are brought into the system through several means. Most victims of trafficking today come from three populations. First, parents may sell children to traffickers in order to pay off debts or gain income. Second, runaways or other displaced persons may be picked up by traffickers. Third, people who are seeking entry to other countries may be picked up by traffickers, and typically are misled into thinking that they will be free after being smuggled across the border. Definitions may very base upon that cultural variation of the crime. In the United States, when people think of human trafficking, they often refer to the illegal practice of migrant smuggling. They picture illegal immigrants from countries like Mexico or China arriving into the United States by way of freight trailer or cargo boat in search for job opportunities and freedom. Human trafficking is defined as sex trafficking in which commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or in which the person forced to perform such an act is under 18. The recruitment, transportation, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force or fraud, for the purpose of subjecting that person to involuntary hard labor, high debts owed, or slavery. Men, women, and children worldwide were bought, sold, transported, and held against their will in unsafe and abusive conditions. Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing forms of commerce and crime throughout the world. While men, women, and children are trafficked throughout many countries into forced labor situations in sweatshops and agricultural sites, the majority of victims are women and children trafficking into the sex trade for the purpose of prostitution, sex tourism, pornography and other sexual services. Most recent Department of States estimates indicate that 700,000 to million women and children are trafficked each year across the world, 50,000 of them into and within the United States (Chauang, J., 2006). The International Organization for Migrations (IOM) estimate the rate could be much higher, stating that as many as two million men, women and children were trafficking across borders in 2001 (IOM website, 2003). Illegal aliens look for the help of “traffickers” to be transporter into another country, mainly the United States. Traffickers, work in small, large, or highly organized groups, arranging for everything from transportation to fake identification, visas, passports and work documents for the aliens. While the conditions of transportation may be unknown, “smuggled” aliens knowingly and willingly enter the destination country to work or find work, they agree to being smuggled. However, a smuggling relationship may allow the opportunity for the smuggler to alter the relationship to trafficking. Persons who seek the help of smugglers often become victims of trafficking, in the destination country or en route. When victims have never consented to being smuggled are either kidnapped or deceived with false employment offers. Traffickers make a profit between seven billion and ten billion dollars a year globally, and it is know as the third largest source of illicit trade, behind guns and narcotics. According to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, the intelligence community predicts that revenue from trafficking “will outstrip the illicit trade in guns and narcotics within a decade.” (Chauang, J., 2006). History Early trafficking efforts focused on white slavery. In 1904, the International Agreement for the Suppression of the White Slave Traffic was created, although very few countries signed it. In the following decades, the focus on trafficking continued to be on women and children who were sold into prostitution. The first concerted international effort to combat trafficking came in 1949, with the U.N. Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. Like other such conventions before it, the document focused on the trafficking of women and children for prostitution. The U.S. at the same time was undertaking its own efforts to combat global human trafficking. In 2000, Congress passed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (also referred to as the Trafficking Victims Protection Act), the first U.S. law to comprehensively address the various aspects of human trafficking. The act included measures to help those who were trafficked and to increase punishment for traffickers, as well as to bolster other countries' efforts against trafficking. President Bill Clinton (D, 1993-2000) signed the act in October 2000, hailing it as "the most significant step we've ever taken to secure the health and safety of women at home and around the world." With regard to dealing with those who have been trafficked, the law represented a turnaround in policy. Previously, those found working illicitly were treated as criminals. The 2000 act changed that, treating those people as victims of a crime and seeking to help rather than punish them. Under the act, victims can be given a special visa, called a T-visa, allowing them to stay in the U.S. for up to three years if they would face hardship upon deportation. In return, the victims agree to assist in the investigation and prosecution of the traffickers. (As of March 2004, 448 victims of trafficking had been granted a T-visa.) The U.S. has also cracked down on Americans who may contribute to trafficking abroad. For example, Congress has passed legislation under which Americans who travel overseas to frequent child prostitutes, known as "sex tourism," can be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. And the Defense Department has also established a "zero tolerance" policy toward U.S. servicemen who may contribute to human trafficking overseas. In addition, individual states have also begun to pass human trafficking legislation. Texas and Washington State were the first two states to pass such legislation, and Arizona and California are considering similar legislation. NAFTA superhighway? What is the purpose of this? Highway 407 toll-road helps provide proof that U.S. Ambassador is misleading Canadians on fascistic NAFTA superhighway agenda by Paul Chen U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins. The Highway 407 toll-road, helps provide proof that U.S. Ambassador to Canada, David H. Wilkins, is misleading Canadians on the construction of a North American Free Trade (NAFTA) Superhighway, to enable the creation of a fascistic North American Union. On 8 December 2004, the Canoe Network that is associated with the Sun Newspaper Chain, in Christina Blizzard's article "Hwy 407: Que Pasa?", reported that Cintra, witch is part of a Spanish Consortium, owns the 407 toll-road. It had been a public mystery, why would a company all the way from Spain, spend the time to own and construct a toll-road. Even more of a mystery to me, had been, why would government in Canada award a foreign Spanish bid over a Canadian company? The Coalition to Block the North American Union revealed that the same Cintra company is behind the Trans-Texas Toll-Road Corridor. Map shows apparent intent to eventually link the Spanish built 407 toll-road, to the Trans-Texas corridor, owned by the same Spanish consortium. Maps accredited to the North American Forum on Integration (NAFI), which is a non-profit organization based in Montreal, clearly reveals an apparent intention to link Cintra's Trans-Texas Corridor to the Hwy 407 Toll-Road, which clearly appears to be being built toward Ottawa, within a vast integrated continental toll network. The 407 Toll-Road in turn was being planned since the late 1980's, and supports the assertion by the Coalition against the North American Union, that the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), was a part of the agendas of both former Prime Ministers Mulroney and the U.S. President at that time, even before its formal signing in 2005. Map of the Spanish corporate private owned 407 toll-road around the Greater Toronto Area. The Trans-Texas Corridor is being designed to provide U.S. and certain Canadian Big Business interests, with easier access to the importing of the outsourced manufacturing of goods, from a further exploited Mexican labour pool, as well from a further exploited Chinese labour pool. U.S. and certain Canadian corporations which have also been exploiting Chinese labour, have been planning a NAFTA superhighway linked with enhanced port connections, to further increase the ability of Big Business interests to make exploitative commercial profit. Spanish corporate built NAFTA-NAU Superhighway: Looking east from the Highway 50 overpass towards the Highway 407/427 interchange. This interchange is a large 4-level interchange. U.S. Ambassador to Canada, David H. Wilkins wrote in the Ottawa Citizen on Monday, August 20, that "while conspiracy theories abound, you can take it to the bank that no one involved in these discussions is interested in, or has ever proposed a "North American Union", a "North American super highway," or a "North American currency". The first thing to appreciate is that owners of CanWest Global that owns the Ottawa Citizen have been principal financial donors to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada. Mr. Harper who is a principal ally of the Bush administration, is also a signatory of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). Therefore, CanWest Global's provision of editorial space to Mr. Wilkins can be seen as an attempt to manipulate the masses through political propaganda. Spanish built NAFTA-NAU Superhighway: Looking east along Highway 407 from the Bathurst Street overpass in Thornhill. Bathurst Street is located roughly at kilometre marker 75. Notice Highway 7 running through the left-side of this photo. Between Dufferin Street and Bayview Avenue, Highway 407 parallels Highway 7 very closely. Secondly, there is ample proof that a NAFTA superhighway is currently being constructed. The NAFTA superhighway is being constructed and developed to facilitate the Big Business agenda that indeed seeks to create an anti-democratic "North American Union". The curiosity of the Hwy 407 toll-road under Spanish corporate ownership is apparent proof of in Canada, of such a SPP-North American Union (NAU) transportation network, that is to be linked with an American toll-road network, with the same ownership. The "NAFTA superhighway", is to become a series of very wide toll-roads to stretch all the way into Canada's north, to rape and pillage Canada's environmental heritage for elite interests connected to a U.S. political-military-industrial complex. NAFTA superhighway is to facilitate the planned consolidation of Canada as an American colony under the clandestine SPP-NAU agenda. It was former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower who warned the American people upon his retirement from Office that the political-military-industrial complex constitutes a singular threat to democracy. Dr. Ron Paul is among the critics of the NAFTA superhighway. The U.S. Ambassador to Canada does not seem to be demonstrating candour on the on-going construction of the NAFTA superhighway. "This superhighway would connect Mexico, the United States, and Canada, cutting a wide swath through the middle of Texas and up through Kansas City. Offshoots, would connect the main artery to the west coast, Florida, and northeast. Proponents envision a ten-lane colossus the width of several football fields, with freight and rail lines, fibre-optic cable lines, and oil and natural gas pipelines running alongside," says Ron Paul, who represents Texas in the U.S. Congress. The NAFTA superhighway map and agenda appears to have been generated by leaked documents associated with SPP related proceedings, which various groups have sought to disseminate.
How do you feel about the good news Mexican truck plan hits snag in Senate ? From our very own Yahoo news service.WASHINGTON - Mexican trucks could have to wait longer than anticipated to haul freight deep into the United States. The Bush administration in February announced that it would soon allow 100 Mexican trucking companies to travel beyond the current 20-mile limit for a one-year pilot project. But a Senate panel on Thursday voted to delay the plan by requiring the administration to publish details about it and giving the public time to comment on it. The action came as part of a supplemental spending bill to pay for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. "The administration is rushing to open the border to Mexican-domiciled trucks without assuring their safety and enforcement of the law of the U.S.," said Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen. "They can't go rushing forward in opening the border without having explained what their pilot project is." The Transportation Department said it is committed to moving forward with the program and will work with lawmakers to address their concerns. "The Mexican trucking demonstration program will bring real benefits and real dollars to the American economy while maintaining all U.S. safety and security standards," the department said in a statement. Democratic Sens. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record) of North Dakota, Dianne Feinstein (news, bio, voting record) of California and Patty Murray (news, bio, voting record) of Washington sponsored the amendment. "There still remain very significant safety issues," Dorgan said. He also criticized the Bush administration for opening the border to Mexican trucks before Mexico opened the border to U.S. trucks. "They were going to implement these plans for Mexican long-haul trucks in a way that was at odds with how the Mexicans were going to treat American truckers," Dorgan said. The move to delay the administration plan was welcomed by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. "This is an important first step in our fight to ensure the safety and security of America's highways," said Teamsters spokeswoman Leigh Strope. Access to all U.S. highways was promised by 2000 under the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement, as was access through Mexico for U.S. carriers. That aspect of NAFTA, however, was stalled by lawsuits and disagreements between the two countries, though Canadian and U.S. trucks travel freely across the northern border. The Bush pilot project will let Mexican truck companies travel from Mexico throughout the United States and back. No hazardous material shipments will be permitted. ___ On the Net: Transportation Department: http://www.dot.gov http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_go_co/mexican_trucks Spud SNAG, for lack of a better word, is good. did you watch this documentry? I saw a documentary advertised for last thursday i think and it was about South American immigrants catching the freight trains and smuggling themselves in to America. I thought it was on one of the channel 4 channels but cant find it on the listings. Does anyone know what channel and what the programme was called?
Whats a catchy name for a trucking company? to give you guys more info...we run 48 states we haul general freight..and we want to sound bigger then we are lol...I was also thinking of using the words trans or american or both..I need a name by Jan 1..09 thanks everyone
Did we get our Moneys worth in Iraq? Iraq facts - cost $370 Billion to date of our Tax Money ( Or borrowed and neeeding to be paid back in future ) This money could buy the following in the USA 1 million teachers for six years 8 million police for one year 6 million port inspectors to protect our ports (99% of freight enters country this way ) 700 elementary schools in each and every state Not to mention the billions lost to fraud and theft. Or, the over 3,0000 American dead soldiers and countless Iraqi's dead. Does anyone , republican or democrat, really believe that this money was well spent? Or, do you believe it was largey squandered by an incompetent government? Sorry folks.....3,000..... Also, say what we will about the French, best healtcare system in free world and free College for all...perhaps $370 Billion could help pay for that. Or, defund the military a bit and do the same.
Will the Airbus A380 succeed commercially? Sales of Boeing's Jumbo 747 have dwindled. American carriers no longer fly these behemoth's (except for freight carriers of course) due to exorbitant costs. These planes are built for the long haul overseas, around the world flights, but how many passengers want to fly on a plane with a capacity of over 550 passengers? I don't. I'm much more comfortable on a Boeing 777, or Airbus A330
Why would the goverment want to build a fence on our southern border but open it to 100 Mexacian Trucking Co.s On 2/23/07 the USDOT made the annocument that 100 Mexcian trucking co.'s and 100 american trucking co.'s would begin a pilot program to let them haul freight into and out of each others countries. Know we do have program like this set up already which falls under the free trade zone. The free trade zone is 20 to 25 miles over each others border which is the limit of which each others trucks can travel into and and out of each others countries. This is going to make bad sitiuition even worse with the quality of Mexcian truck drivers being in this country and not knowing the habit s of american drivers. Not being able to read american traffic signs. This must be the most insane pilot progran I have ever heard of. Your comments on this???

I intend not to insult but make an honest attempt to provide remedial recourse for the circumstances which enable me to live a extravagant lifestyle at the expense of my fellow human beings. I'm incorporating an Organization, which i have created the euphemistic-metaphor "BlACK-to-Africa". Did you about hear the Contracting trucking scam story from a truck driver in Iraq? A trucker joined up with a contracting company because he felt he would be helping the war and our troops, doing his duty as an American to help. When he first arrived he felt proud and patriotic to be there in Iraq and when he saw others loading up their freight, he asked them if they were there to help out and supply needed materials to troops and Iraqi's. They said no, they were there to make money and that was all it was about. This really ticked him off. Later on while he was driving he lost a couple tires on his truck in a blowout and got on the radio for repairs. The repair contractors showed up and asked him to get into their vehicle, that they would take it from there. They set off a charge on his supply truck, left there on fire to burn. It turns out that the Contracting scam is so great - they actually make more for a total loss than just fixing a couple of tires! War profiterring at its finest. This trucker has since quit and returned to the states! And I heard on Monday that the contracting company that provides food to our troops wasn't getting paid fast enough so they had work stoppageand didn't feed the troops until they got paid. They were holding the food and its preparation ransom for payment! And it didn't happen just once - but several times on a rotating basis! War is money - and I guess there is a lot to be made in Iraq It's sick!

ANALOGIES AND METAPHORS Every year, English teachers from across the country can submit their collections of actual analogies and metaphors found in high school essays. The Dark Side of America? America might ONLY be 5% of the world population yet more oil is consumed in America than all of Canada Europe and Australia combined. the US Rejected the "Cyoto Treaty" while would have prevented Billions of tons of hydrocarbons and all green house gases from escaping into the atmosphere. The Average American House required 77 Trees to be cut down in order to provide the necessary wood. No other country in the world is as responsible for more pollution than the United States. Considering that China needs to burn tons of coal each day in order to produce cheap products for the American Consumer. Jet engines are the worlds biggest polluter and 90% of commercial Jet engined traffic is done by Americans. Cows create more global warming emmissions than all the cars on Earth combined. And you guessed it, no other country in the world has more cows than America. And don't forget Cargo Ships and Freight transport; all the cars and electricity generated. The point is. I don't think it's possible to have your cake and eat it too. If you want an economy which is an exchange of money. It will be necessary to hurt mother nature by cutting down trees, polluting the air, buring coal and oil, pumping oil out of the ground, transporting tons of goods (more burned oil), etc etc. If you want to build a house to sell you need to cut down trees and fire up the kiln for the metal. If you want to sell food you need to discard of tons of plastic materials each day. And the list goes on and on and on. If you want to make money, you need to harm the environment in order to do so. Just because you might be living comfortably at least temporaraly does that make it OK to kill the Earth? I fear that if we want to cut down on pollution, we would cut down on a stronger economy as well. Money would be spent for "scrubbers" on coal power plants. It takes energy to make sure our abanoned mines don't spill out acid into the surrounding environment.

help with a summary? Last Rites for Indian Dead by Suzan Shown Harjo What if museums, universities, and government agencies could put your dead relatives on display or keep them in boxes to be cut up and otherwise studied? What if you believed that the spirits of the dead could not rest until their human remains were placed in a sacred area? The ordinary American would say there ought to be a law—and there is, for ordinary Americans. The problem for American Indians is that there are too many laws of the kind that make us the archeological property of the United States and too few of the kind that protect us from such insults. Some of my own Cheyenne relatives’ skulls are in the Smithsonian Institution today, along with those of at least 4,500 other Indian people who were violated in the 1800s by the U.S. Army for an “Indian Crania Study.” It wasn’t enough that these unarmed Cheyenne people were mowed down by the cavalry at the infamous Sand Creek massacre; many were decapitated and their heads shipped to Washington as freight. (The Army Medical Museum’s collection is now in the Smithsonian.) Some had been exhumed° only hours after being buried. Imagine their grieving families’ reaction on finding their loved ones disinterred° and headless. Some targets of the Army’s study were killed in noncombat situations and beheaded immediately. The officer’s account of the decapitation of the Apache chief Mangas Coloradas in 1863 shows the pseudoscientific nature of the exercise. “I weighed the brain and measured the skull,” the good doctor wrote, “and found that while the skull was smaller, the brain was larger than that of Daniel Webster.” These journal accounts exist in excruciating detail, yet missing are any records of overall comparisons, conclusions, or final reports of the Army study. Since it is unlike the Army not to leave a paper trail, one must wonder about the motive for its collection. The total Indian body count in the Smithsonian collection is more than 19,000, and it is not the largest in the country. It is not inconceivable that the 1.5 million of us living today are outnumbered by our dead stored in museums, educational institutions, federal agencies, state historical societies, and private collections. The Indian people are further dehumanized by being exhibited alongside the mastodons and dinosaurs and other extinct creatures. Where we have buried our dead in peace, more often than not the sites have been desecrated. For more than two hundred years, relic-hunting has been a popular pursuit. Lately, the market in Indian artifacts has brought this abhorrent activity to a fever pitch in some areas. And when scavengers come upon Indian burial sites, everything found becomes fair game, including sacred burial offerings, teeth, and skeletal remains. One unusually well-publicized example of Indian grave desecration occurred two years ago in a western Kentucky field known as Slack Farm, the site of an Indian village five centuries ago. Ten men—one with a business card stating “Have Shovel, Will Travel”—paid the landowner $10,000 to lease digging rights between planting seasons. They dug extensively on the forty-acre farm, rummaging through an estimated 650 graves, collecting burial goods, tools, and ceremonial items. Skeletons were strewn about like litter. What motivates people to do something like this? Financial gain is the first answer. Indian relic-collecting has become a multimillion-dollar industry. The price tag on a bead necklace can easily top $1,000; rare pieces fetch tens of thousands. And it is not just collectors of the macabre° who pay for skeletal remains. Scientists say that these deceased Indians are needed for research that someday could benefit the health and welfare of living Indians. But just how many dead Indians must they examine? Nineteen thousand? There is doubt as to whether permanent curation of our dead really benefits Indians. Dr. Emery A. Johnson, former assistant Surgeon General, recently observed, “I am not aware of any current medical diagnostic or treatment procedure that has been derived from research on such skeletal remains. Nor am I aware of any during the thirty-four years that I have been involved in American Indian . . . health care.” Indian remains are still being collected for racial biological studies. While the intentions may be honorable, the ethics of using human remains this way without the full consent of relatives must be questioned. Some relief for Indian people has come on the state level. Almost half of the states, including California, have passed laws protecting Indian burial sites and restricting the sale of Indian bones, burial offerings, and other sacred items. Rep. Charles E. Bennett (D-Fla.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) have introduced bills that are a good start in invoking the federal government’s protection. However, no legislation has attacked the problem headon by imposing stiff penalties at the marketplace, or by changing laws that make dead Indians the nation’s property. Some universities—notably Stanford, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Seattle—have returned, or agreed to return, Indian human remains; it is fitting that institutions of higher education should lead the way.Congress is now deciding what to do with the government’s extensive collection of Indian human remains and associated funerary objects. The secretary of the Smithsonian, Robert McC. Adams, has been valiantly° attempting to apply modern ethics to yesterday’s excesses. This week, he announced that the Smithsonian would conduct an inventory and return all Indian skeletal remains that could be identified with specific tribes or living kin. But there remains a reluctance generally among collectors of Indian remains to take action of a scope that would have a quantitative impact and a healing quality. If they will not act on their own—and it is highly unlikely that they will—then Congress must act. The country must recognize that the bodies of dead American Indian people are not artifacts to be bought and sold as collector’s items. It is not appropriate to store tens of thousands of our ancestors for possible future research. They are our family. They deserve to be returned to their sacred burial grounds and given a chance to rest. The plunder of our people’s graves has gone on too long. Let us rebury our dead and remove this shameful past from America’s future. 0 comments: Post a Comment Newer Post Older Post Home Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom) __________________________________________ Recently Dugg Stories The Covers Project The Covers Project began as a simple idea to help listeners discover new music by showcasing covers of famous songs. A failure to communicate? http://www.ksby.com/global/story.asp?s=6936855 "MEXICO CITY (AP) - The closure of an American-run railroad in Mexico stranded thousands of U.S.-bound Central American migrants near the Guatemala border. Many have been deported today by immigration officials. Some migrants tried to walk hundreds of miles to the next working rail line. Others -- with no money or provisions -- turned themselves in to Mexican authorities. The government this week sent federal police and soldiers to clear out the migrants, who for decades have hopped freight cars on the Chiapas-Mayab railway. In late July, Connecticut-based Genesee & Wyoming withdrew from a 30-year concession to operate the line. Central American migrants continued to stream into the area. Thousands were camped along rail lines -- waiting for trains." What do you think? Rabid Frog, the train line cited the illegal immigrants as a reason they abandoned their option to run the line. They said it is one thing to run a freight train but an entirely different operation with different problems when there are 300 people clinging to the top.
Is this news article from Yahoo about illegals good news or bad news? Central America migrant flow to US slows http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080413/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/mexico_fewer_migrants By OLGA R. RODRIGUEZ, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 59 minutes ago ARRIAGA, Mexico - For thousands of illegal immigrants from Central America, the long journey to the U.S. starts here, on the groaning back of a freight train they call The Beast. ADVERTISEMENT But these days many don't get too far. Central Americans without documents now face increased security within Mexico, including checks on the train for stowaways. It's also harder for them to head north once they cross into Mexico because of hurricane damage to the train tracks. The result: The number of non-Mexican migrants stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol has dropped almost 60 percent from 2005, despite increased detention efforts. About 68,000 non-Mexican migrants — mostly Central Americans — were detained last year, compared to 165,000 in 2005. Non-Mexicans make up about 10 percent of all migrants caught by Border Patrol officers. Mexico itself is also seeing fewer illegal immigrants — 120,000 were arrested last year, a 50 percent drop from 2005, when Hurricane Stan hit and destroyed the railroad, according to the National Immigration Institute. Since President Felipe Calderon took office two years ago, Mexico has added more soldiers and federal police on its border with Guatemala and more immigration and military checkpoints throughout the south. Despite its efforts to secure its own southern border, Mexico does not try to stop its own citizens from crossing north illegally into the United States, beyond pursuing drug and people smugglers. By law, Mexico notes, Mexicans can go wherever they want within the country, including the border. They don't break any laws until they are on U.S. soil. Many Mexicans are also sympathetic to illegal immigrants from Central America, but the issue still causes some tensions that echo the U.S. debate. Isaac Castillo, owner of the Hotel La Posada in Arriaga, argues that Central American immigrants often end up working in Mexico, where wages can be double the few dollars a day they might earn at home. "The problem isn't just in the U.S., but in Mexico, because a lot of Central Americans want to stay here and compete with Mexicans for jobs," he said. The crackdown on Central American migrants has left them searching for new routes. Some pay smugglers $7,000 to go by boat into southern Mexico, then hide in tractor-trailers heading north. These boats and trucks try to evade highway checkpoints set up every few miles alongside most of Mexico's southern roadways. But migrants have been crushed to death when false floors collapsed under the weight of freight, and 22 Salvadoran migrants drowned in an October shipwreck off the coast of southern Oaxaca state. For those Central American migrants unable or unwilling to risk the sea, a cargo train — The Beast — remains the only option for the 2,000-mile trip to the U.S. The long trek begins at the Suchiate river, on the border with Guatemala, where for $1 they cross on makeshift rafts into sweltering jungles. Then they hike along the destroyed, sun-scorched train tracks to Arriaga for up to nine days. Arriaga, 200 miles from the Guatemalan border, is the closest place to hop a train since Hurricane Stan destroyed the Chiapas-Mayab line. As they head north, they pay off thieves, immigration officials, police and railroad employees. Juan Gabriel Ramos, a Guatemalan 17-year-old trying to join his mother in California, said he bribed a Mexican federal police officer and an immigration agent before even making it to Arriaga. "They both told me that if I didn't give them money they would send me back to Guatemala," Ramos said. When they're caught, migrants say they're often abused by Mexican authorities. In one notorious case last year in the northern city of Saltillo, migrants complained to the National Human Rights Commission of rectal exams done by immigration officials who said they were checking for cholera. "The mistreatment of migrants here is brutal, and no one does anything about it because everyone sees them as booty," said Heyman Vasquez, a Roman Catholic priest. He estimated 80 percent of migrants are robbed before they arrive at his two-room shelter in Arriaga. The slowdown in immigrant traffic is notable in Arriaga, a town of corn and sorghum farmers. Only a few clusters of Central American men and women linger around the mostly abandoned, graffiti-covered train station, where they wait for the first train they can grab. Many stay at a local migrant shelter, watching television or sharing stories of abuse. Sitting on a cracked sidewalk outside the shelter, one Nicaraguan man told of the time he saw a group of criminals gang-rape a woman and shoot her boyfriend. A Honduran couple talked of fleeing their country after gang members killed their teenage daughter, and leaving their seven children, ages 18 to 1, in hiding. It doesn't get any easier once immigrants hop a train. They must often bribe private guards and police stationed along the tracks. Many stowaways are too tired to hold on to the train and fall, losing limbs. The trip itself can be deadly. Jorge Guevara, a 21-year-old Salvadoran, said he first rode the train to the U.S.-Mexico border in 2001 and saw 20 people crushed, and probably killed, when cars derailed. He fled and never found out what happened. "That accident left me in shock, but I kept going," Guevara said to a group of first-time migrants, listening intently. "One doesn't think about the danger, only about getting to the United States. Once I'm there, I'll think about it." Guevara said he drove a forklift in Dallas until he was pulled over for a burned-out taillight and deported last year. It took Milagros Rivera and her family a month to reach Ixtepec, just 85 miles north of Arriaga. By then, the 36-year-old from El Salvador said they had been robbed three times. The first time was at the river crossing into Mexico. Soldiers demanded money before allowing her, her boyfriend, her 20-year-old son and her 18-year-old daughter-in-law to continue on. About 50 miles later, gunmen held them up along the tracks, forced them to strip naked and took about $1,500 they had saved, Rivera said. "It was a terrible moment because they took my daughter-in-law away, and we thought they were going to rape her," said Rivera. The thieves ended up freeing the girl unharmed. But then they were robbed by a local police officer of the $40 they had collected begging on the streets. Rivera said she is bound for Virginia, where friends have promised to help her find work. "There is a lot of suffering," she said. "But the hope of reaching your destination helps you to keep going."

In 1969, he was the first African American to play basketball for the University of Kentucky, playing a few games as a walk-on, then withdrawing from the team. He had a more successful career as a defensive back on the football team. At that time at UK, football players could not play until their sophomore year. In spite of only playing three years, Bishop's career at UK was phenomenal. He holds the UK career record for most pass interceptions (14) and return yardage (376). He made more tackles (348) than any defensive back in UK history. He is also remembered for the 43-yard interception return touchdown in the 1971 win over Vandy and the 97-yard touchdown return against Mississippi State. Daryl Bishop was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1974. Information provided by the University of Kentucky Athletics Media Relations Office. Bridgeman was a 1975 graduate of the University of Louisville. The 6' 5" forward played for Coach Denny Crum; in 1972 the Cardinals were ranked 4th in the country and played in the Final Four. In 1975 Bridgeman was drafted 8th in the first round by the Los Angeles Lakers and then traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. Bridgeman finished his career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1988 and his jersey was retired. He holds the team record for most games played. Today, Bridgeman is owner of more than 150 Wendy's Restaurants, including several in Louisville, KY; it is one of the largest Wendy's franchises in the U.S. In 2003 Bridgeman was named chairman of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees. Like other African American school teams in Kentucky, WGHS was a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic League (KHSAL). The counter league, Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), was for whites only until school integration began in the mid-1950s. The 1956-1957 WGHS team was the first African American basketball team to win a district tournament in the KHSAA tournament. As more African American students were allowed to attend the formerly all white schools, there was an impact on the pool of high school athletes that had been restricted to the all black schools. In 1965, the year that William Grant High School was closed, the basketball team won only five games. The season was a far cry from the winning seasons that had garnered the school a win-loss record of 185-69 during Brock's years as head coach. With the closing of William Grant, Brock moved on to Cincinnati, where he continued to successfully coach high school sports. James Brock was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Black Hall of Fame and the KHSAA Hall of Fame in 2000. For more see Shadows of the past, by L. While attending high school in Fort Knox, Brown set a record as state high jump champion. The 6'8" center was an All-America basketball player at Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC) and a member of the team that won the 1987 NCAA Division II Championship. Brown, starting all but one game, was the second leading rebounder that season with 225 rebounds. Brown went on to play ball with the Harlem Globetrotters from 1988-1995. Casey, a 6' 2" guard, was on the University of Kentucky basketball team from 1976-1979; the 1977-78 team won the NCAA Championship. Casey played in 95 games, scoring 125 total points. He then was an assistant coach under Clem Haskins for five years at Western Kentucky University until 1986, when he became an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky. Casey was the third former player to become an assistant coach at UK and the first African American to do so. In 1988 he filed a $6.9 million suit against the Emery Air Freight Corp. and the employees who claimed to have discovered $1,000 cash in a package Casey sent to the father of California basketball player Chris Mills. [The suit was eventually settled out of court.] Casey resigned from the UK in 1989. He later served as an assistant coach overseas and in the NBA. From June 2005 - January 2007, Casey was head coach of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. Evidence that Terrorists enter using Mexican border??? Does anyone have any??? Has there ever been any??? Is "the possibility of it happening" Evidence??? If foreign extremists were trying to enter the US why would they do it from Mexico? Because arabs and mexicans look symilar? Stupid Layman Logic...it assumes they've never heard of Canada or the fact that customs inspects only a fraction of the freight that's imported into the country. I used to think Bush&Friends were going to build a wall...(cause they said they were...but they say a lot of things)...I realized his whole migrant worker scheme would go out of wack...because if he closes the border than farmers can't exploit illegals and must be subsidized with money that would otherwise fund the Iraq War...sooo it's better to leave the American people paranoid that some suicide bomber is going to disguise himself as Alfredo and enter the US with a mob of Mexicans (whom don't notice him of course cause he has a Cheech mustache)...don't leave your logic at the door.
Gas Price Whining Forces Rush to Explain Capitalism Yet Again? Gas Price Whining Forces Rush to Explain Capitalism Yet Again RUSH: I went to the MoveOn.org website today. You know what they're all up in arms about today? High gas prices. They're sending out an action e-mail to all of their members asking people to sign a petition to get Congress to do something about high gas prices, and Congress is going to do something about high gas prices. Have you heard this? They are going to sue OPEC! They are going to sue OPEC for high gas prices. Why aren't they suing Big Oil, I wonder? The House voted yesterday to allow the government to sue OPEC over oil production quotas. They ought to sue themselves! They're the ones standing in the way of our energy independence. You know, high gasoline prices, high oil prices today are partially due to the fact that back in the Clinton administration and since the Democrats have prevented any drilling in, say, ANWR or anywhere else for our own supplies of oil. They have all this dramatic talk about alternative fuels and so forth, which is a pipe dream. There's nothing down the road that's anywhere near something that's going to solve whatever problem we have. But I find it interesting they want to sue OPEC and not Big Oil. This is, again, something that will go nowhere. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: "The jump in U.S. gasoline prices this year has so far drained consumers of an extra $20 billion, or about $146 for each passenger car in the country, the Government Accountability Office told Congress on Tuesday." That's also known as the GAO. "The national price for regular unleaded gasoline hit a record $3.22 a gallon this week, and is up $1.05 since the beginning of February, according to the Energy Department." Now, get this. "The added expense is taking money away from consumers to spend on other goods and services." Yes, it is. "Spending billions more on gasoline constrains consumers' budgets, leaving less money available for other purchases." Why don't you people think about this on tax cuts, for crying out loud? If you want to cut prices on gasoline, cut the taxes, the state, the city, the feds, whatever else. It adds up to 60 cents a gallon. It's all profit. We've been over this I don't know how many times. Mrs. Clinton said something about doing something to increase the supply, lower the price, I forget what it was, and I'm sitting there thinking, if you are Big Oil and you are a global concern, your market is the world, why in the world would you invest heavily in -- I think this is about refineries, we need to be building more refines -- who's standing in the way of building more refineries? Environmentalist wackos. And who are they aligned with? They're aligned with the Democrats and left. But if you're Big Oil, why would you even consider investing gazillions of dollars in a country that is trying to ban your product? Somebody needs to ask that question besides me. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Mike in northern Wisconsin somewhere you're next on the EIB Network. Hello, sir. CALLER: Hey, Rush, how's it going? RUSH: Fine, sir. CALLER: I got a tanker up here, a gas tanker, and I'm not going to tell you who I drive for -- RUSH: Wait, wait, hold -- time-out, time-out, I want to hear -- you driving the tanker? CALLER: Yes, I am right now. I'm going to get another load of that precious liquid gold. RUSH: Yes. CALLER: (Laughing.) Anyway, what I wanted to say was, I just delivered in a store here, and they were lined up at two stations, the one I was at and one across the street. The prices -- for granted, let's say they're just high, okay, whatever. RUSH: Right. CALLER: We can't keep gas in the ground, people are buying it as fast as we can put it in the ground. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm just telling you it doesn't seem -- if the world is going you know where in a handbasket and everything is going bad, people seem to be buying gas and going on vacations up here and -- RUSH: We know this is true. Your little story here is anecdotal, but we know it's true. There have been surveys. Something came out yesterday that driving went down for a while, on a percentage basis from the previous year. But from what you're describing, people waiting in line for your truck to show up to refill the tanks at the station? CALLER: There was people there waiting, and I pulled in, and I had to block the road just so I could get in and unload this thing, and we ran all weekend. We had trucks out all week running. Now, if the economy is so bad, how come people keep buying all this gas and the motorcycles and their motor homes and -- somebody's making money somewhere putting this gas in their tanks. RUSH: You are really shrewd, I have to tell you, and plus you have the benefit of being an eyewitness to this. This notion the economy is in bad shape and that people are fretting over gasoline prices is simply manufactured news, manufactured news from the Democrat Party, and they're trying to compare it to food prices, which it is a necessary. We all have to eat in this country. I had somebody ask me the other day, "Rush, let me ask you a question, you once said, and you're right, that that you go to the grocery store and the profit markup in a grocery store on basic foodstuffs is 1%, grocery stores make their money selling the stuff at the checkout counter and the magazines and the candy and all this sort of stuff and the mops and the spic-and-span, whatever's in there. But on basic foodstuffs, profit margin is 1%, because people have to eat." He said, "Well, why doesn't Big Oil look at it that way. People have to drive to get to the grocery store to eat." I said, "Well, both prices, both profit markups, both businesses are constrained by the market forces in which they operate. People do need gasoline, and that's why they're driving." They're not going to slow down and they're not going to stop going to work and they're not going to get on the light rail train. We have some of the ugliest light rail trains I have ever seen in my life right down here in West Palm Beach. I don't go over there much, but sometimes I have to get to the airport. You get stopped sometimes, when I come in late from a flight getting home, midnight or one o'clock, that seems to be when these things are moving, and nobody's on them -- wait, no, that's the freight trains. Take it back. These are the transit, the rush hour, little all-day-long light train. They're supposed to be painted to look like Florida blue with the palm trees. They don't look like that. They look ugly. They look like they're unfinished, looks like they bought used train cars and they haven't done anything to them. But the thing I noticed, they're always empty. I scour, I look in the windows, you might see one or two people on a three-car train. They're empty. People don't want to get on these things, and they don't want to get on buses, outside of New York, where this is standard form of transportation, cabs and buses and subways and so forth. But around the rest of the country they want to drive their cars and they're going to and they're going to pay whatever it costs. They might complain but they'll pay it. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Darren in Billings, Montana, I'm glad you waited as we get back to the phones. Welcome to the EIB Network. CALLER: Hey, Rush, it's great to talk with you. Mostly dittos from Montana. RUSH: Thank you, sir. Never been there and would love to go. CALLER: I'd say, we'd love to have you up here sometime. RUSH: I'll make it at some point. CALLER: There we go. Hey, the problem with the analogy of the oil company and the grocery store is that the oil companies own the product from the raw stage to the retail stage. And the grocery store is actually the true showcase of the free market, where they're buying products from different places and different manufacturers and wholesalers, whereas the oil companies are controlling it all. RUSH: So? CALLER: Well, this is the reason that gas is the price that it is. They're the ones handling that. There is no free market in the oil business. RUSH: Okay. There's no free market in the oil business? The prices in the oil business are fixed? Democrats in Congress conducted an investigation, I think it was Senate Democrats might have conducted an investigation after Hurricane Katrina to find out if there was price fixing. The Democrats couldn't find any evidence of it. CALLER: No, I wouldn't say that there's price fixing. RUSH: Well, if you -- CALLER: I simply don't think that there is the true free market that we see in all the other industries. I don't see any other industry that controls things from raw material to retail sale. I don't think that the supply-demand -- RUSH: Well, then tell me how it is that the prices in this country are lower than they are anywhere else in the world? CALLER: I don't have an answer for you right off on that. RUSH: Well, you know, I've got limited time -- CALLER: I don't know how all the other countries are working. RUSH: You're a great guy, you're a nice guy. There's no free market in gasoline. Propaganda works on this every time the price starts going up, and I don't get it. I just don't. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: When you get otherwise intelligent people saying there's no free market in the price of gasoline, after all of the countless years of detailed attention paid to the subject, the painstaking research, the patient presentation of facts by me, I often throw up my hands. Let me try, because I know that the gas price is one of these things that when it comes up, it goes up, people think that there's some suspicious or conspiratorial reason behind it, they just cannot accept the fact that the free market works in gasoline. So let me ask a question. Or let me ask many questions. Let us speak of many answers. How many oil companies are there that sell gasoline in the United States of America? How many are there? Take a wild guess. I don't even know the answer, but it doesn't matter because there's more than one. If you don't think they are competing with each other, then you don't know the world. ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, and whoever the others are, they compete with one another. That's number one. I realize that some of you might think they all get together and set the price and so forth. Second thing is, how many companies are there selling gasoline in this country that are not American? Citgo is one, there's Hugo Chavez. British Petroleum. Do you think that ExxonMobil and BP and the rest are getting together with Hugo to set prices in the United States? Remember, now, these people are the world market. Now, where does this oil come from? Gasoline is oil first and there are a bunch of different places it comes from. All over the world. Comes from Canada. In fact, that's the number one country we get oil from. That's our number one importer. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia. The oil companies do not own this oil as it is. I don't know if you've noticed this, but Hugo Chavez just kicked the oil companies out of Venezuela. He's nationalizing everything. He's taken it, screw you, if you want to stay here and run the wells and so forth we can work out a little production deal, but, ha-ha-ha-ha, this stuff belongs to Venezuela because the oil is ours. Same thing happened in Saudi Arabia and Rockefeller got his change before that happened, but same thing happened there, basically. "We don't need you anymore." So tell me how it is that oil, which starts the whole price timeline, coming from so many different places in the world, ends up as refined gasoline with no free market determining the price in this country. I want to know how this is possible. I want to know how it is that BP, ExxonMobil, Citgo, name other companies, the size that are out there -- hell, I don't know -- Conoco's merged with somebody. I want to know how they're getting together with the Russians and with the Saudis and coordinating this. Then I want you to tell me, the guys playing the futures market in oil on the commodities market, I want you to tell me how they are involved in this so that the price is set by one person from the time it comes out of the ground 'til it gets to your car as gasoline, the idea that that's true is false. All these companies compete with one another at the retail level, they are competing with each other to find oil all over the world. We have to buy oil from all these different countries, and we have to refine it here. All of these aspects have market circumstances that rein in the desire for people to charge more than what they can get for it. Then you've got the stockholders of these publicly traded companies who are demanding profits as big as they can be. They're publicly traded companies and if the managers of these companies don't get as big a profit as they could or if they get too little a profit, there's going to be hell to pay from the shareholders. Now, I want to know how in the world anybody can genuinely think that the oil companies, who are citizens of the world, own every bit of oil that comes out of the ground and then every bit of the processing before it becomes gasoline, then it becomes gasoline and goes into your tank, I want to know how this happens. This is news to me. And why is it that the Democrats in the Congress are suing OPEC in order to do something about the rising gas prices. Why aren't they suing Big Oil? And how is it that OPEC isn't Big Oil and how is it that Hugo Chavez isn't Big Oil and how is it that Russia isn't Big Oil, and how is it that British Petroleum and ExxonMobil and Conoco or whoever else, how come they are? I'm sitting here mystified by all this. This is not to say that I'm insensitive to the price, but the idea here -- oh, and one more question. Have you heard of a country called China? I'm sure many of you have. We refer to them here lovingly and affectionately as the ChiComs. Well, despite their best efforts over there, they are having an expanding economy. There are now multimillionaires in China and more and more people have access to automobiles that use gasoline, and they are putting a lot of pressure on the worldwide supply of gasoline, and in this country, your friends, the Democrats, are standing in the way of this country finding any more oil on our property; be it Alaska; be it off one of the coasts, they won't let it happen, while at the same time they're talking about energy independence. So I want to know how it is, at that Big Oil, which earns 30% of its income from operations in the United States, I want to know how it is that Big Oil and all these companies competing with one another somehow control the product around the world from the moment it comes out of the ground. I want to know how they own Saudi Arabia. I want to know how they own Russia. I want to know how they own Iran. I want to know how they own Venezuela. Niger, Big Oil -- there's oil coming out of the ground everywhere but here. I want to know this. If you can answer these questions, with all the pressure on the supply, the worldwide supply that the rising Chinese economy is put -- and the Indian economy, by the way, they're going bonkers as well, if you can tell me how Big Oil controls every drop from the time it comes out of the ground until tends up as gasoline in your tank, then I can maybe accept your -- but you can't tell me because it's not possible, because it isn't true, because it doesn't happen. If you want a shocking statistic, I've forgotten the actual numbers here. Going to have to go back to my website tonight to the archives, I gotta remember the date and find this. Maybe Koko can search for it real quick when he hears what I'm talking about here. I was playing golf with a guy who had just had a conversation with an energy expert and he was passing the story on, secondhand. I didn't hear it from the horse's mouth, but the numbers of people in the world who don't have electricity would stun you. Who don't have running water, stun you. Don't drive, don't have automobile, would stun you. It's a vast, vast majority. If those people ever got -- by the way, you people like flipping on the light switch at home. You like when the air-conditioner works? Where do you think that comes from? They won't let us do nuke power, so it's coal and it's oil. I haven't even scratched the surface of the oil industry here. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface, the costs in finding it, drilling it, bringing it up, transporting it as crude across the oceans and pipelines and so forth. I literally am amazed that somehow the truth and the facts of the oil business, economics of the oil business, escape people when the economics of most other things are never questioned. Well, I'm not totally mystified. You've got the Democrat Party and the Drive-By Media routinely telling people they're being gouged, and you've got Democrats talk windfall profits taxes and so forth and so on. I'm blue in the face trying to describe to you how much every gallon you buy goes to your state, local, and federal government as total profit. Nobody ever complains and they're talking about raising those taxes, by the way, in the midst of all this, yeah, because, you know what, as the price goes up, some people are buying fewer gallons of gas, and that's less tax money. So the roads may not be repaired, bridges may not be prepared and so forth. So all these people out there wanting you driving these little windmill hybrids. I'll tell you what, if everybody did that, and the consumption of gasoline went down big time, you think the taxes wouldn't go up to make up the loss to the government? It would. This market is so complex, it's like the climate, although it's not nearly as complex as the climate, it is profoundly complex, and to try to control it and corner it is impossible. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I have a little chart from the year 2001 from the Wall Street Journal. The source of this chart is Energy Intelligence Group. It's a chart of oil companies by size of crude production. The largest oil company in the world: Saudi ARAMCO is the number one oil company in the world in 2001, producing 8.3 million barrels of oil a day. Next is the National Iranian Oil Company, NIOC, at 3.77 million barrels of crude a day. The third largest oil company is PEMEX, that's Mexico, 3.56 million barrels, and they just announced a huge find in the in the Gulf of Mexico off of their shores. The fourth largest oil company by crude production -- and this is going to be a small number now given what's recently happened there -- is Venezuela. The company is PDVSA, three million barrels of crude a day, but they've just nationalized a bunch of oil down there, they claim, so they're going to be higher than that. Number five is ExxonMobil at 2.54 million barrels of crude a day. So you got Saudi Arabia at 8.3 million barrels a day. There's ExxonMobil at 2.54. ExxonMobil's market share of the world oil market is 3%. Don't anybody call here again and tell me about Big Oil engaging in price fixing and controlling every bit of the oil from the ground to your tank as gasoline.
