Southeastern Freight Knowledge Base
Anybody ever hopped a freight train in southeastern US? I'm looking to take a train ride this summer, probably from Atlanta to pacific northwest then back. I would like to hear from someone who has done this recently. Any advice would be appreciated. I know this isn't exactly legal, that part dosnt bother me. I want to speak to someone with experience so I don't accidentally hop on a one way ride to northern Canada. Please don't waste my time and yours by pointing out what everybody already knows.
Anybody out there hopped a freight train recently? I am interested in riding freight trains this summer. I want to go from the southeastern US to the northwest and back, probably something like Atlanta to Seattle back to Atlanta. I was wondering if anyone out there has any actual experience riding trains? I have studied up using all the online resources available, I want to connect with someone that has actually done this. Anyone? I don't care whether or not you would or wouldn't do this or whether or not this is legal, I want to hear from someone that knows someone who has done it, or has done it them self. If you don't fit neatly into either of these categories, then pi$$ off!
Traveling to Russia, what to consider? I'm planning on moving to Russia for permanent residence (yes, I known Russian :). I currently live on the southeastern coast of the USA. What I'm wondering is if it will be cheaper to pack all my belongings by freight transport or airlines? I've heard that freight transit is more expensive for common travels, but factoring in the cost of transporting all my stuff by air would definitely be a fortune too. Also I would like to exchange all my US dollars with Russian rubles, is there a place/way I can do this before I leave the country, or will I have to do that in Russia at a bank? Is there anything else I should consider for traveling to Russia (aside from where to live, weather, living expenses, job, etc..)?
Current LTL rates in the southeastern US? Can somone tell me what an appropriate rate is for LTL refrigerated freight in the southeastern US? Either CWT or by the pallet is fine. Any advice is very much appreciated.
