Sydney public transport concession cards? I frequently go to a newsagent and buy a concession card without showing any ID, I do this because it's half the price and cannot afford the full fare. I am backpacking through Australia and as far as I know, I am not eligible for concession. What are the chances of getting caught? and I do get caught, what will happen?

I seriously feel like i need to take pills to calm me down when im on public transport. Any advice?

Where to submit public transport proposal (Sydney)? Hi, I, and others in the community, are annoyed at the lack of public transport (buses/rail) in our area. Where would be a good place to send our Letter of Interest: Proposal for Transport? Would the local government or SydneyBuses be a better idea? Or state government? It is really unacceptable and needs to be fixed. Thanks
Is it possible to get to Pymble from Sydney with public transports? I'm Italian and I need to reach Pymble NSW from Sydney (hotel in downtown), round trip in a day, from Sydney not from Milan ;-). Any basic Info about travelling from Sydney central to Narrabeen on the weekend using public transport? I am thinking of going to Narrabeen but I will likely be going from Sydney Central raiway area and back . It will be a Saturday. Anyone can give me some basic info as to how to get there using public transport? Is it viable? and how long it likely to take? I am guessing I would catch a ferry to Manly then a bus up north. But is there a long wait between buses (if any) on Saturdays? How late do they run? Any info or links appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sydney transport: Airport---Circular Quay? Hi, I looked up the fare for a return trip from Sydney domestic airport to Circular Quay and its $22.50!! (I looked it up on the CityRail site) Seems a bit over priced. Although I'm from S.A and its alot cheaper here to catch public transport...! Anyway, Because there is 2 of us travelling, Its gonna cost $45 just to see the city. I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives? Thanks
Tourist thinks to do in Sydney and areas accessible from Sydney? I will be visiting Sydney the last week in February 25th- March 5th and going by myself. Moving to Sydney from NYC, is transport close to comparable? Hey everyone, so first off I will most likely be taking the permanent dive under to Sydney having lived in NYC for 24 years now. However, I am mostly hesitant because I can't imagine the transport coming anywhere close to being what I am used to. I don't quite have the money saved for a car & would need to take a few lessons before I could consider that a viable means of transport. So really, my question is has anyone made such a move and found the public transport easy to come by? I know I will be in an area close to city...somewhere near a place called Cherry Hill? I'd have to ask the bf where he lives again lol buts in either in Inner/North Sydney. My main dilemma is that I won't be able to adjust (I despise buses and for weird reasons opt to not take them..its been about 15 years since stepping foot in one)..so any advice, suggestions and such would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

WHat is the best suburb in Sydney to live in? How do you commute to the city from there and how long? Moving to Sydney and looking for an area with a nice feel, preferrably some good cafes and villagey feel. Looking for a commute of no more than 30 -40 minutes. Happy to ride to work if there is a decent (not too dangerous) cycle route. THinking Eastern suburbs or inner west. Keen to understand what public transport is available to get to work and how long it takes. Not really interested in ferry unless there is also another road option for when ferries stop running in the evenings. Looking forward to your advice!

Lets get the Chinese to run Sydney's trains? Sack CityRail staff and let the Beijing Metro run CityRail. If you have used a subway in China you would be impressed how the Chinese can make public transport work more efficiently and cheaply in much larger cities than Sydney. We let the Chinese make our clothes. Now they write our computer programs. So would anybody shed any tears for CityRail if they manage our trains? Even the Russians can run their metros better.

Which is better, Melbourne or Sydney? I'm currently living in northern nsw and am planning on moving to either Melbourne or Sydney. I can't decide which. I'm not a big fan of the beach and I actually prefer cold weather but I absolutely detest AFL which everyone in Melbourne seems to go nutters for... But how else do they compare... housing availability and costs, general atmosphere, public transport etc. And I'm finishing my teaching degree at uni. So jobs aren't really a problem.
Where is the best place to stay in Sydney? I am due to leave in 2 weeks to go travelling, after going around Thailand for 8 weeks i will land in Sydney where me and my partner will be living and working there for 6 months. Is there anywhere near Sydney I should see if I rent a car? What's the best way to get around Sydney...is there a good public transport system. Many thanks Jonathan
When will the NSW government own up to the real reason - Sydney Olympics debt - for why they are flat broke? NSW is still broke and in debt because of the Sydney Olympics! Why can't they just say it? Why do they still po-facedly defend electricity privatisation, public transport downsizing and toll ways? Why can't they just say that we have never financially recovered from Olympics infrastructure excess and debt? Maybe they will whimper it in their last death throes as they are forcibly thrown out of office... what do you reckon? Cheers :)

Best/safest neigbhorhoods in Sydney? Hi, Me, along with my family are planning to spend 5 nights in Sydney. Wondering if anybody could suggest a decent neighborhood in Sydney. I came across quite a few, Woolloomooloo, Potts Point, Chippendale, Wentworth, Chinatown, Ultimo, Manly, Kings Cross, etc., I was warned that some of these neighborhoods (such as Kings Cross, etc.,) are not safe, and some are prohibitively expensive... Could anybody kindly suggest some neighborhoods that are safe, and are close to enough attractions/or well connected by public transport to most of enough attractions at Sydney? Or atleast is there a website where I can get such information? websites (such as www.city-data.com) that have details for other places in Australia as well? Thanks a lot in advance! -BJ
What is a best way to tour round in Australia? We are planning to tour round in Australia next May. Starting off from Sydney - Brisbane - Cairns - Darwin - Alice Springs - Ayres Rock - Broome - Perth - Adelaide - Melbourne - Canberra - Sydney. Does anyone know what is a best public transport to use Domestic Flight or Train?
Why do people think Melbourne is better than Sydney? I just came back from a week long trip to Melbourne and it was the most horrible thing ever! The only things that are better in Melbourne are the public transport network and the fashion industry. Sydney is a more photogenic city, has better restaurants and the people are friendlier. Also, the nightlife in Melbourne consists of 6 policemen walking together in a group up and down every main street in the city whereas here in Sydney people can actually enjoy themselves at night. Is there something I missed? Also, in Melbourne you seem to be reminded everywhere that you're in Melbourne and when someone finds out you're from Sydney they have to give you about 100 invalid reasons why Melbourne is better... whereas up here we know we're better and we don't have to prove it to anyone.
In a city that has thousands of moving vehicles, should pushbike riders be not permitted during peakhour? I believe that they should not be.Today, during the afternoon traffic,I saw a pushbike rider (yet again) nearly cause an accident. The bike rider(motor bikes are not what I'm saying)almost collided with a car, which, owing to a smart driver,an accident was avoided. These people are not in the country, are doing nothing to help the environment, and,in a city such as 'Sydney' it is insanity and reckless at peakhour.I use public transport.Frankly, after all of these types of scenes(the 'pushy ALWAYS assuming some moral high ground),it would be a pleasure to see one of them hit by a truck. What do you think?
Short term accommodation in Sydney? I will be in Sydney, Australia for 6 weeks from the begining of August and am looking for self catering accomodation/short term rental for this period. Ideally in the city centre or close to the city centre along public transport lines
8 days in Sydney in July - Best place to stay? Hi! I have an 18 yr old and a 16 yr old and would like to stay in The Rocks, but somewhere near all the good pubs, attractions and public transport. We are on a moderate budget so about $150 to $200 . Thank you !!
Where to move in Sydney??? We are about30 and relocating from London to Sydney. After living a nomadic life for almost four years it is time to look for a real home. We have been living in Sydney previously( glebe, coogee beach) What we have now in mind would include a couple of points: -residential area but still a bit of an arty vibe -reasonable propertyprices ( maybe a chance to be an upcoming suburb) -good public transport , also into CBD(trains?) -reasonably close to any beach(3km) sounds pretty pragmatic, eh? Well its the ideal, but reality might look different. Here is a bit of what we experienced in other suburbs before : I found glebe quite nice but its just too far away from the shore and too expensive. Coogee is great for a swim, but the occasional night out in the coogee beach palace hotel is just not what we think of an inspiring event... Surrey Hills is nice for arts and warehouseparties and so on, but too much surrounded by the city djungle... Thats fairly it.Anyone got THE answer?pleeease!!!!!!!
What is theABSOLUTE CHEAPEST motel/hotel in Sydney, Australia? Two of my friends and I are high school students in Adelaide and want to travel to Sydney in October for two nights for a concert. We're trying to save as much money as possible, and are looking to find the cheapest accommodation we can POSSIBLY find. We aren't fussed about any luxuries, really, at all, as long as it has at least a double bed we could share and a bathroom. Lodges, inns, motels, boarding rooms, hotels, anything. The concert is in Kensington, Sydney, but as long as we were in public transport distance of this and the city, the location wouldn't really matter. We don't care if it's like, one star accommodation, we just want the cheapest we can get =] Any help would be seriously appreciated, we want to get everything organized asap!!
Going to Sydney, Australia for a holiday, any ideas? Me and my boyfriend are going to Sydney for a few days in the second week of February. We'll be staying in a hotel in the CBD, just wondering if anyone knew of anything interesting to do while we're there? We'd like to try and stay in/near the CBD as we won't have a car but will be relying on public transport. Anything from activities, good places to dine, or even a nice hotel if you know of one. And PLESE dont suggest the harbor bridge, give me some credit and assume that i'd already thought of that one :P Oh and also the gay and lesbian mardi gras is then as well, we'd like to steer clear of that :)
What is the cost of living in Moscow compared to Australia? I need to find out what I would expect to pay for rent, public transport, entertainment, groceries, etc in moscow. I'm not extravagant so estimations need not be over-the-top. Also, what would I have to earn in Moscow to maintain a similar lifestyle if my salary in Sydney was US$100k after tax ?
Moving to Sydney from Melbourne for work ; where should I rent? Hi. I am a young professional living in Melbourne, got a good job offer in Sydney and may be moving there soon. The job is going to be based in the suburb of Minto (Southwest, near Campbelltown). Preferably I'd like to rent reasonably close to my place of work, with good access to public transport as I won't have access to a car for a while. Want to avoid suburbs with serious crime/drugs problems. I know about the bad-rep for all of Southwest Sydney suburbs, but are there areas which are relatively secure? I am not concerned about proximity to clubs, bars, nightclubs and party-spots. I am something of a workaholic. Yes, I am a very boring person. Which suburbs do you think I could look at renting?
