logistics??????????????? I've been placed in a position that while seemed easy at first, I'm finding that " I didn't know what I didn't know" so, I'm managing a small warehouse and a fleet of 4 vans ( 2 of which are out mon. thru Fri.) while to some people it seems easy, I find myself frustrated beyond words. My question is simply HELP! is there a book i can get to help me through this transition? It's getting done, but there has to be an easier way!
What is the difference between a third party logistics provider and a transportation/freight broker? As I understand it, companies outsource their logistics activities to a 3PL provider which takes care of all of that clients logistics functions. But what is a transportation/freight broker? Are they just a company that will match a carrier with a shipper for the lowest price, but not necessarily take over the entire logistics process? Are they just a quick fix while a 3PL provider is a long term deal?

How does the preparation and management of logistics materialize as the artist/band tour different cities? I have spared some thought about this process of band/artists touring. It strikes me how they set up the performing stage using same concepts, do they cargo the same construction materials the same way to diferent cities. How are the logistics managed, bcoz sometimes they are performing in different countries with only a day in between. How does it all happen on schedule? Do they travel with the same crew all over the world , and how do they control the ticket sales , audit against fraud , right to the final cash into the artist pockets?
Appropriate entry-level position in logistics company that requires a lot of travelling? Due to the age-old art of nepotism, I've pretty much an open-ended invitation to any available, entry-level position in a very large logistics company. My degree has nothing to due with logistics itself; hence why I'm limited to entry-level, but the company does provide extensive training to their employees. Before I declare my interest and intent, I want to know about what kind of position, I should request. And as alluded to in the main question, I'm wondering what entry-level positions would require a lot of travelling. Also, one that is related to law would be a plus as I'm pre-law (and a psychology major). Thank you for the assistance.

What are some tips and recommendations for a case study presentation on a company's logistics system? I have to discuss cost drivers for logistics costs and their tradeoffs. There is also a portion that I need to think of alternative supply chain operation strategy to reduce cost. Lastly I need to think about distribution center expansion. I'm not looking for the answers to the questions but rather recommendations on how I should present the material. Should I base it a lot on numbers only because that's all my professor can quantify or should I try to look at it from a qualitative perspective? Also where can I do more research on real world solutions? Anything extra is also greatly appreciated.

What is the difference between Supply chain management and logistics? Logistics includes physical distribution, warehousing, freight transportation (inbound and outbound from manufacturing plants and in some industries customer service (sales order processing, inventory planning and production planning. Supply chain (for a manufacturer)includes the logistics business functions above, and also includes purchasing, sourcing, procurement, buying, manufacturing operations, production scheduling and inventory control and materials management, facilities location planning, the information technology to coordinate between suppliers, the company, and customers (wholesalers and retailers and end users. In a retail and wholesale company, the manufacturing company would be the suppliers or sometimes the wholesalers for a retail company. Each industry the supply chain is defined slightly different. Suffice it to say that if one had to differentiate between the two it would be to say that Supply Chain Management is looking at active management of the whole enchilada, while logistics can relate to part or parts with the supply chain. Unless an individual wishes to assume it, to make logistics literally synonymous probably requires the use of additional words like "total logistics management" or "integrated logistics management" to definitively mean the same thing.
