Live cost in Vancouver, Canada?
Hi! I will move out to Vancouver, Canadá next month, and i was wondering about general costs of daily living... - monthly fare card for transport? -cost per trip if i don't have this card? -in case i don't take any means of public transport and i decide to go to work walking... is it recommendable? or should i take a cab? -average cost of a trip on a cab? -in a peak hour? -to a short distance? -to a long one? -how much should i tip the cab driver? -general price of grocery shopping in Costco per person? (per day, week, month) -general price of eating in restaurants or diners? (cheap but good ones ;) ) well, any information that'll help me survive there without spending too much money. and, if i go in september, - how will the weather be the next six months? - what kind of clothing do i need to stay warm?i mean, is it too cold? - price of thermal clothing? - price of an internet place per hour? or the average fare for the use of it? THANK U SO MUCH!!! :)

- I don't live in Van but live close by and have family and friends there. The price of transit is CRAZZZY...well, at least I think so. The price depends on how many zones you want to travel. My friend used to have a bus pass and it was $90/month for two zones I believe. Here is the link for more info on Vancouver's public transit: http://www.translink.bc.ca/?p=1.txt It's fine to walk to work...here in Victoria, as soon as you step into a cab, the price is almost $3.00 to start...depends on where you want to go as to how much it will cost, but traffic is usually crazy in Van so it would probably be pretty pricey. I usually tip a cab driver about two bucks. I don't shop at Costco so don't know about grocery prices there. Eating in restaurants...anywhere from $5 at McDonalds and up....I'd say about $12 for a nice meal. September is the start of fall...usually quite warm... Then it's the rainy season...so make sure that you have a rain coat!! You will not need thermal clothing..unless you come from somewhere REALLY hot and then may find that it is colder than locals do. I have never warn thermals here (only while in the Rocky Mnts during the winter). We rarely get snow...and if we do, it's only for like a day or two usually. To stay warm, have a nice warm sweater or two, and a waterproof coat....a pair of gloves, and a scarf! Internet cafe's....not too sure, haven't used one here in a while...maybe a couple of bucks an hour... Sounds like you're coming from overseas...?? If you have any more questions, feel free to send me a private message!! Good luck and have fun!!
