Where to live in Toronto, married 30 something, no kids!?

Me and my husband currently live in England, we visited Canada for 3 months last year and have decided that we would now like to live and work there for 12 months, leaving in March! I fell in love with Toronto (and we stayed just off Queens Street so some people will obviously think I'm mad but there you go!) and would love some info on good places to live. We need to be within a reasonable traveling distance from the centre (no more than 30 mins on public transport) but somewhere reasonably pretty and safe (bearing in mind we currently live in the North East of England so it's all relative!) We will be renting but are happy to pay the equivilent of up to £500 per month or possibly a bit more for the right place (if you think Toronto is expensive try England!!:o) We are both young 31's and have no kids so would like to hit a happy medium, ie. not be in total suburbia with retired and families, but equally not right next door to an all night club! Any advice would be great, thanks.

go live in downtown toronto there are some beuatiful new condos there and many young cool people...
Hello, I was born & raised in Toronto, and there are a few "pockets" I believe you would enjoy very much. One is the Avenue Road /St. Clair West area. Another great area is Bloor West Village which is about 15 mins. west of the core. The accomidations are quite nice, and there is a very low % of riff-raff. I mean wherever we go, that element exists, but it can be non-existant in some locales which doesn't mean it MUST cost alot of money to live in a safe, clean, civilized neighbourhood. www.tridel.com/toronto go to this site and u can find lots of condos .tridel is a well reputed company .rent should be in between $1600-2200 for 2 bedroom apartment .they also have i bedroom condos.swimming pool ,gym card playing room and tennis courts r usually inside tridel buildings.
I have always liked the High Park area of Toronto there are lots of apartments both high and low rise and house conversions. The park is a great place to go and having a large green space on your doorstep is great. At the Bloor ST end of the park there is the subway to take you down town and at the southern end there is the street car (Trolley car) that will take you to the subway or downtown. The neighbourhoods surrounding the park are old and well established Good luck on where ever you decide to go

I know downtown has tons of new condos... not sure how expensive they would be, but another area that comes to mind is Parklawn & Lakeshore. Condos right on the lake, nice area, and just outside of downtown (probably 5-10 min drive at most). public transportation is easy too! Good luck with whatever you choose :)
