Holiday in the USA (November)?
Hello! I'm italian and I'm planning to come in the US after the graduation, in the month of November. At the moment, the idea is to visit center/east part of the country.. here is what I'm thinking: Milan-Chicago (plane) 4/5 days in Chicago Chicago-Detroit (coach) 4 days in Detroit Detroit-Toronto (coach) 5 days in Toronto (with a visit to Niagara falls) Toronto-Miami (plane) 5 days in Miami Miami-New York (plane) 5 days in NY New York-Milano (plane) I don't think we'll rent a car.. so I need to know how long does it take to visit this city with just public transport.. More or less, what's the weather in November? In Canada will be very cold? In Miami is it possible to go to swim in the Ocean also in November? Other suggestions? Is there something that is not worhsee and it's better to visit other cities? Usually, how much does it cost to stay in hostels or in cheap accomodation?

- Bring money--much money and your passport Do not know what you want to see, but cold and winds might be reason to rent a car, as distance between sights could be a factor in what you see. Bring heavy coat and be prepared to buy gloves and scarf Only warm city on your list is Miami---the rest in Nov can experience 25-35 degF.temperatures as normal with snow flakes. Yes you can swim in Miami in Nov outdoors. Hostels and cheap accommodations what are those? Not here, unless there is a YMCA with a vacancy. Would be better to stop in NYC before Miami and return from Miami to Italy. Would suggest you consider the Spring or Fall time for this itinerary
- It's going to be cold in all of those cities in November, except Miami. You probably could swim in the ocean in Miami, unless they have an unusual cold spell, but you should check to see what the usual water temp is for November. Four days in Detroit??? Do you have family there? If not, I'd suggest you totally skip Detroit. There's nothing of interest to tourists there. If you were driving, I'd suggest you substitute Cleveland instead. There's a nice art museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Toronto is nice and has a lot of things "underground" so you don't need to be out in the weather. There is the Royal Ontario Museum and other art museum [can't remember the name off the top of my head] and the Ontario Science Center. Nice shopping and restaurants, too. You might want to go to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls [much nicer than the US side] and then take your flight from Buffalo airport to Miami. Don't know how easy the transportation will be for this itinerary. Public transportation in the US between cities is not like it is in Europe. Check the website for Amtrak [our railroad, such as it is]. If you do go to Detroit, you could get Canadian rail from Windsor [across the river from Detroit] to Toronto. I think Canada's railroad is called ViaRail. None of the cities you're interested in are "cheap" as far as accommodations go. You might be able to find hostels. The websites for Fodor's, Frommer's and Lonely Planet and BudgetTravel.com might have some good info for you. For weather, you can check the Weather Channel's website. I hope you have a wonderful trip to the US.
