Suggested cycle routes close to London?

Last week 2 of us, one male one female, in our 50's and competent cyclists, did about 30 miles from Uxbridge around the Colne Valley taking in lots of lovely sights and a 'church tea' and a pub stop by the water... lovely. We are looking for suggestions for more routes about this length: please ONLY reply if you have (a) done the route (b) it is accessible by public transport for those living in London (c) it can be done in a day and (d) it is not hard, off road ATB stuff. AND - if you would like to join us please do! Next one is 13th or 20th May and we are planning going as a small group. Be aware that we are in the 'older' age group but we are not a SAGA group or slow. We're out to have a great time without getting wasted or exhausted, leaving plenty of opportunity for getting to know each other and chat, at least in the breaks! No 'beginners' please and do please have a decent bike.

  1. M25 in the fast lane. Make sure you wear crash hats. Better still, come to London in [I think] July and you can see the official start of the Tour de France. Some real cycling for a change.
  2. There are 351 routes listed here including stage one of The Tour de France. Satellite images and maps. This site has routes all around the world. Enjoy http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/srchkey/London
