Location Transport

Moving to Sydney from NYC, is transport close to comparable?

Hey everyone, so first off I will most likely be taking the permanent dive under to Sydney having lived in NYC for 24 years now. However, I am mostly hesitant because I can't imagine the transport coming anywhere close to being what I am used to. I don't quite have the money saved for a car & would need to take a few lessons before I could consider that a viable means of transport. So really, my question is has anyone made such a move and found the public transport easy to come by? I know I will be in an area close to city...somewhere near a place called Cherry Hill? I'd have to ask the bf where he lives again lol buts in either in Inner/North Sydney. My main dilemma is that I won't be able to adjust (I despise buses and for weird reasons opt to not take them..its been about 15 years since stepping foot in one)..so any advice, suggestions and such would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

  1. Unfortunately Sydney doesn't have a great metro transport system like New York. But depending on where you will live, there are still train lines - just not as developed and intricate as New York's. You need to find out exactly where you're going to live if you want to get a proper answer. If you're in North Sydney then rains and buses are really good. I don't think you need a car if you live here. Cherry Hill doesn't ring any bells, and 'inner Sydney' could be anywhere! So recheck your location. If you're not near a train station, then buses can take a while to get used to. I recommend an extensive iPod play list, and lots of books! All the best.
