How will Sydney be disrupted during the APEC meeting?
Apart from the public holiday on Friday, September 7, 2007 what other disruptions will there be? I am all for an extra holiday, but I wanted to know exactly what will happen with public transport, accessing areas in the city, bars, pubs, restaurants, accessing an apartment block in the CBD right by Hyde Park etc.
Public Comments
- If I was you I would get out of Sydney for the weekend all those leaders in one place could only mean trouble.
- The media will alert the public as to any news they need to know regarding local matters that arise due to the meeting. So just watch the tv news, read the newspapers, and listen to the radio - you'll be informed.
- APEC meetings in Sydney will start on Sunday 2 September and finish on Sunday 9 September. In the lead-up to and during APEC there will be a greater security presence throughout the NSW public transport network, including the placement of uniformed and plain clothes police and security guards on stations, trains, wharves and ferries. Motorists are advised to allow extra travelling time, particularly during peak periods. Motorists may also experience delays in and around the city in the days following APEC, due to the removal of event infrastructure. Changes to roads will include some street closures, Special Event Clearways, and restrictions to on-street parking. People can travel to and from the CBD using all types of public transport during APEC. NSW transport authorities recommend people leave their cars at home, plan ahead and allow extra time to travel to and from the City. Trains Circular Quay, Museum and St James stations will be closed from Friday 7 September to Sunday 9 September. These stations will reopen on Monday 10 September. City Circle trains that normally run via Circular Quay will either terminate at Central or run via Town Hall to the North Shore Line. Central, Town Hall, Martin Place and Wynyard stations will be open throughout APEC. The North Shore line and Eastern Suburbs line are not affected by APEC. If you are travelling to Circular Quay or The Rocks, the closest train station will be Wynyard. CityRail timetables Trains will operate on normal weekday timetables from Monday 3 until Thursday 6 September inclusive. CityRail suburban trains will operate to the normal weekend timetable on 7, 8 and 9 September. Sydney Buses will operate on normal weekday timetables from Monday 3 September to Thursday 6 September inclusive. On Friday 7 September, Sydney Buses will operate to a Sunday timetable.
