Public Comments
- GoTo: Coit Tower The Pier Wax Museum Golden gate Park SF Shopping Center Starbucks The Warf The Chevron Building The Castro You can take Muni or the Bart cost $1.50 to go on.
- Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz are big attractions and truckstops if you are into that.
- Fishermans Warf (Pier 39 is a big Tourist spot) Lumbard St. (the really crooked one) China Town Alcatraz Boat Tours Sony Pavillion Street Trollies Crab (some of the best in Cali) Sourdough Bread Etc. Etc.
- North Beach (near Columbus and Kearny) is where the financial district, Chinatown, Italian area, and Wharf come together. It's a good place to get some food at touristy but less touristy places than Fisherman's wharf. You can sit outside and not be mobbed. Don't eat at Fisherman's wharf. It's awful. S.F. has some very good restaurants. Good seafood restaurant: goto Aqua or Farallon. Farallon would be better atmosphere. Both are pricey. You may need reservations if on a weekend (reserve anyway). Not dressy, since it's California. Shopping - 5th street and Market (San Francisco Center) if you like Nordstrom's and such. Street shopping radiates from that point up through Union. Shopping that is non-traditional and possibly more fun (boutiques) would be Haight-Ashbury district. Goto Haight & Ashbury intersection and follow your nose. Golden gate park is nice. Worth a look. Roller blading (closed to traffic) on Sunday. See the Golden gate bridge. To see a Movie, goto Sony Metreon. Other recommended fun - Castro.
- Tourists Attractions: Fisherman's Warf, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Shopping Malls: There is a really big Macy's in SF. I am not sure how to get to the bart so you will have to research that. Sorry.
- Everyone has given you ideas, but I just got back and took public transportation the entire time. It was easy. I went to a local convenience store...any will do. Buy a $11 day pass to travel on all public transportation....they will also give you a bus route schedule. It is very easy to follow. You will notice some tourist paying every time they get on the trolley, etc. That is $5 one way. You will be riding like a champ all over the place with your $11 day pass. Good luck!!
- Best seafood restaurant in all of San Francisco TADICH GRILL You can go for lunch, but get there by 11:30 as it gets VERY crowded. This is NOT a tourist trap at Fishermans Wharf, but a great place on California Street. Its a great menu and a meal you will not forget. Yes, they also serve dinner.
- I just spent one day in San Fran while traveling to Cali on business. Make sure you take the Hyde/Powell cable car line! We waited almost an hour to get on, but it was well worth the wait. A true San Francisco experience and the views of the city are just unbelieveable. And if you can, try to ride it so you are hanging on the side, NOT sitting down. You won't get the views if you are sitting. Enjoy & have a blast!
