Transport a Bass in San Francisco?

I have just moved to SF and I play the double Bass. I will have to cart my Bass around the City a lot and I didnt know if It Would be Practical to Get Rid of my Car and Use Public Transportation?

1. Getting around SF on public transport with a double bass (or any city's public transport with a double bass), while not impossible, is going to be tricky. It does depend on where and when you are traveling, but during the day on weekdays the buses and light rail can be quite crowded and i could see it being very difficult to get on and off - I would hold onto the car if you can - it is practical to own a car here.
