Do car shipping companies require the car to be registered?

I drove my car home to Maine when I found out my mom was sick in June and put it in storage til now. I would like to get the car back to Colorado but cant find my registration form. I know I registered it in May because of the stickers. Can I ship the car with out proof? Can I get a proof of registration over the phone or through fax? What should I do?

  1. If you have the car shipped on a trailer, then you probably wouldn't need the registration. Try posting a request for bid on U-Ship.com to find trucking companies who will ship the car for you. http://www.uship.com
  2. not normally. you could fax the old papers for proof if they needed it, but most will accept keys and payment as evidence.
  3. . It is not necessary for a vehicle to be registered if it is to be transported on any trailer, be it a shipping company, or a trailer of any kind. Registration is only required if the wheels of the vehicle being moved touch the roadway.
