what does the blue i in tdi on a vw transporter stand for?

  1. turbo-charged direct injection
  2. turbo diesel injection i would say.
  3. A lot of car designations do not really mean something specific. It is only a way to distinguish between the different models. A few names however do tell a little bit about the car, like TD can indicate it is a turbo diesel. Since a petrol engine can be fitted with a carburettor or a fuel injection system it makes sense to insert an "i" in the name but since all diesel engines are injection engines it actually tells you nothing. It is very often only a name like Jetta, Golf or Passat, just like GSX, GLS etc.
  4. injection i believe this correctly answers your question ;)
  5. injection
  6. i am sure WV put the 'i' there just to make the van look better, as i am sure you know all diesel models have injectors, would you rather have a turbo diesel or a turbo diesel injection, its a bit like a vw golf or a vw golf gti
  7. The blue 'I' refers to the type of engine fitted in your transporter. It will be the 2.5 litre 5 cylinder TDI engine with the code AJT(it's the first three digits of your engine serial number). The reason for the blue 'I' is that it does not have an intercooler so has a lower power output of 88hp compared to the intercooled 102hp or 151hp.
