do shipping companies work on weekends?

i bought something online and was wondering if shipping companies work on weekends, or will my package just sit there until the weekend is over? the shipping selected said this "Ground (US Cont. 48 States 3-5 Business Days)" do they work on weekends? i think its being shipped by fedex....thanks...possibly ups but i doubt it

1. I believe UPS ships on saturdays, for a small fee. Other than that, your package won't necessarily sit all weekend, becuase they process freight all the time...so even if its not "on its way" to your house, its still being moved/put onto the truck.
2. ups/fed-ex do with appointments and an extra charge. usps works until saturday, with no extra charge.
