how much does the USPS exam cost?

some of my friends told me its over $100 ($32.50 for the test and $60 plus shipping and handling for the book) others told me its free and open the public is this true?? i want to know for sure

1. The exam costs nothing. Private business training classes are what cost the money.
2. The test is free, you can sign up at www.usps.com, there is no book that you have to buy, but there are many prep books available for the different tests.
3. I'm sure it doesn't cost anything. Call their corporate office and ask them, it should be free.
4. The first one has it right. There is absolutely no charge made by USPS for anyone to take any of the tests. What you, and your friends, must be talking about is one of those preparation course that you see advertised in newspapers across the US. I will make this one true statement. USPS does NOT advertise in the help wanted sections of any newspaper when there is any hiring going on. The ads you see touting Postal Jobs $20 hr to start (which is wholly untrue), are not palced by USPS, but by these companies that want to sell you materials to get you ready to take the test. They can not guarantee that you will be hired. When we need to hisre, the registers have already been filled by people that took the test months, even a few years ago.
