Why did Amazon.com jack up its book-shipping rates?

I notice that their used-book shipping is now $4. I recall it being $3 or $3.50 not too long ago. Anyone know what's up with that? It's kind of rotten. Ha. I forgot about the postage hike. How annoying.

1. US postage rates just went up in July quite a bit for all postal classes, especially media mail
2. It's called, gas prices are rising!!! Everything from the cost of milk to bleach has been going up as a result. Totally normal.
