What is the strength of 4 containers stacked 2 rows wide 2 rows high?

Hi yall, I wish to build my house out of 4 X40 ft shipping containers stacked 2 rows wide and 2 floors high. Where the internal side walls of each container meet, If i were to remove half the internal walls or all the internal walls excluding the ceilings, would I need to install columns for more support, would the bottom floor be able to support the top floor? Would I need support columns on the exterior of the building? Cheers Seno

  1. That's mad crazy man.
  2. probably best to check you local zoning first, they may have floor thickness requirements that you will need to meet in addition to preventing collapse of your house.
  3. I believe you need to speak to the building code people they will explain how it should be done or direct you to a source that can. What your proposing to do I believe is not acceptable.
  4. you want to build a house from shipping containers? maybe you should have a professional build you a house instead.
