Why would a Volkswagen Transporter OVERHEAT IN THE SUMMERTIME AND NOT IN THE WINTERTIME?

van, 1989, 2.1 injection -- might this happen because of some setting in a system that I do not know of, or the fan, or the thermostat OR WHAT? I AM SERIOUS!!!

  1. gimme a break!!!!!
  2. oh my god, lets think real hard about this. summer hot, winter cold duh.
  3. Most likely the fan or thermostat as there are no other settings. Remember the fan is controled by a temp. sender. Your fan might not even kick in in winter. Also older VW were air cooled I think. But I doubt an injection engine will be.
  4. hi, u should check if your fan works the controler should be on the radiator, there should be 2 wires on it if you conect those wires the fan should start, if it does then its the controler if it doesn't then it's the fan or the wiaring what is broken, another thing u should check the thermostat it could be stuck or it could be a winter thermostat
