Location Transport

Can anyone help me decide whether to drive or ship my car?

I'm relocating from NY city to LA in August. It's hard to decide which car transport company is reliable. Thank you all!! I have decided to drive.

  1. driveing is probably less expensive
  2. drive
  3. driving is a better option we had our car ship from Connecticut to Arizona, and the best offer we got was $999. It's typically in the $1000-1500. It's terrible they delayed our vehicle twice! TWICE! I end up with the vehicle month and half latter than the original date. I called and complained; they just ignored me. the company i used is AAA Interstate (not the AAA membership thing)
  4. Did you know you can hire an auto-driveaway company? There are people who want to travel to other locations and have no way of getting there, and these people will drive your car for you to your new city. My ex ( a freelance photographer who frequently had assignments across the country) would do this for his business, drive someone else's car one way and fly the other. The car owners always got a chance to meet the driver and decide if they were comfortable with him. This might be worth investigating if you don't want to make the drive yourself. The drivers are responsible for any damage to the cars or tickets they get. Good luck.
  5. If you have the time and money, I would drive. It would give you a good chance to see the country and do a little sight seeing along the way. I used to drive at night when there was no traffic, from about 10pm to 8am, do a little sight seeing during the day, check into a motel around 1pm, sleep until 8-9pm, checkout (they would usually only charge me 1/2 price) and get back on the road again. Worked out great.
  6. Personally I would say make the road trip, it will cost you less than the combined cost of shipping your car and flying across the country. Not to mention all the beautiful sights that you would miss by speeding over them in a plane. Two years ago I made the trip back up to Alaska from Washington State and it took me five days, of driving through some of the most beautiful landscapes that I have ever seen. Traveling from NYC to LA gives you the opportunity to see a great number of things along the way that not that many people ever get to see these days because they take a rapid form of Transportation. Some sights worth mentioning, depending on the route you decide to take. Mount Rushmore, The Grand Canyon, The Gateway Arch in St. Louis. The vast farm fields of the Mid-west, Big Bend in Texas, The Hoover Dam, Las Vegas. Be a tourist for a bit and enjoy the trip, you may not get to do it again for quite a while. As for the cost of the trip, you can always find someone who is willing to share the cost of the trip, so that it is cheaper for the both of you to get from point A to point B, and you might just make a friend along the way. Not to mention have someone to talk to while driving those long stretches of road in the middle of nowhere...
  7. if you got the time i got the places make it fun and drive find some famous land marks and see them on the way through. like the st. louis gateway arch and maybe the grand canyon and yep got to go through vegas.. take a week or ten days and drive its worth it
  8. i would drive.it would give me a chance to see the country
  9. If you have the time i would drive it. This would give you time to see the country and would be cheaper. You may also have a great time.
  10. With the price of gas, driving may not be the cheapest, when you consider fuel, meals, lodging, etc. Also it is quiet hot in some parts of the country at that time. I would get a couple of estimates, and make sure I was dealing with a reputable company, and then make an educated decision. Also, this is a beautiful country filled with wonderful things to see and do. You just might want to take a look at some ot the interesting sites along the way. There is no better way than a road trip. Who wouldn't want to hit route 66? It would be great if you get a companion to go along and enjoy it with you.
  11. Just had a vehicle transported from San Francisco to New Jersey by DAS. 800-826-1083. It cost $1145 but I transported it insured and within and enclosed truck. Other cheaper options are available with DAS
  12. Make the drive...you and your family (if u have 1) will enjoy it totally. Perhaps you may not ever see some of the places on the way ever again so make the most of it.
