Location Transport

What if an MPG treaty was signed by all countries that produce all different forms of transport?

If every make and model plane, train, ship, big rig, truck and car had to raise it's MPG one gallon per year then exsisting technology could be improved for long enough that new technologies could be comercialised allowing for a smooth continual yearly one MPG increase for the next 50 years at least.. I know it could be done cheaply enough especially with government research and grants for companies to increase there own research and devolpment and comercialization departments to actually save money for companies and tax payying customers at the same time. This would mean overall it would save money and natural resources and the climate at the same time. Would this be a great start on affordibile energy independence through conservation and the affordible slowing global warming through reduced emmisions at the same time?

  1. Something like this would never happen just because of the big lobbyist groups that exist in every country, not just ours. It is a good idea in theory, but really people have to want to change their ways and car companies have to be able to adapt as well. This is a lot of cooperation among many different, sometimes unwilling, parties.
