Location Transport

Do you think the Mag-lev or Monorail will overtake trains and cars as a commercial mode of transport?

It's just that some people may think that it will never take off but I am more optimistic!

  1. monorail...monorail...monorail.... There's one in Bangkok (The Skytrain) and it's the greatest fucking thing since sliced bread. My god, I love that thing.
  2. Mag-lev, maybe. But monorails have proven expensive white elephants in every city dopey enough to set one up.
  3. Mag Lev is going to come in the future. It is far faster than rail and cheaper to run but it is very expensive to build. As to cars there is a lot more development to go before we can get Mag Lev cars. but I do hope that it will come I just doubt that I will ever see it.
  4. Well, technically both are just another form of train transporation, except they do not operate on fixed steel rails. Because of the cost and lack of efficieny gained over steel rails, monorail will most likely always play a small role, being used mainly in light rail and commuter services in the big cities (which it excels quite well at). Mag-lev on the other hand will likely play a more important role in the future, albeit very far. As mentioned, it is very cheap to operate but very very expensive to build. I think at least through any foreseeable future it will also play a small role, again, mostly being used in commuter and light rail service. It is very likely, though, that many many years down the road because of its speed and the fact that it is 100% environmentally friendly, it may very well become the leading mode of train transporation, both freight and passenger.
