By train to Tatra mountains?
How can we get to a central place in the Tatra mountains, Slovakia, from a capital, e.g. Budapest by train(s)? All travel agencies only suggest traveling by car but it's far and we would like to use public transport, then probably rent a car in Tatra. Anybody with experience? Thanks.

- The Tatra mountains are also in POLAND. Unless you must be in Slovakia, then an easy way is to fly or gte the train to Krakow, hire a car at the airport or station and drive to Zakopane which is a pleasant town in the Tatra mountains with easy access to lovely mountain-country stocked with wild animals. It is about an hour from Krakow. Slightly to the north is the primeval forest which you might also enjoy visiting.
