Location Transport

Why is the Aust. Government not linking more towns with Public Transport?

Public Transport should be like a spider web and not like the outlay of an octopus as it is in Australia. There are only railway lines from smaller cities going towards the big cities, but no webbing outside the city, connecting smaller towns together whithout having to go through the central city first. As an example, I cannot go in Victoria from the quite big city of Geelong to Ballarat by train and visa versa. No possibility either to go by train from Belgrave to Frankston I have to go to Melbourne first! What a missed opportunity to bring work and home closer together saving on cummuters cost. Work opportunities can be better created all around the central city than just clusterd in the central big City, if there was a better web of railway lines, avoiding all these cars and busses on the road. This now causes the need of a forever extending road network and unnecessary car exhaust fumes adding to airpollution and global warming.

  1. Forget the transport, Why isn't the Australian government linking more towns with a sustainable water source? after all they have got enough of out GST dollars to do it.
  2. Do you really have to ask? Look who you have for a PM. Bush's lap dog.
  3. I have to agree with the person above me! But on a more serious note, I totally agree. In Western Australia onlt the Perth metropolitan area has trainlines and, just like you said, to get from say Armadale to Fremantle you have to go through Perth first. I guess it's because Australia is a fairly recent nation, although at times that may be easy to forget! When each states cities were first made, and cities expanded form there, the main transport lines would have been to the major capital of said state, which would deal with the major finances/government/trade...etc. Over time the government, for whatever reason just expanded on these trainlines like, as you said, an octopus. Most likely as it was just easier and quicker than building a spiderweb of lines. Hopefully in the future it will change, but I bet it won't be for a while!
  4. I agree I am from Melbourne and we are only a few steps closer to making a greater accessible Victoria by public transport. I dont have a car and it is assumed you have one, if you live in Victoria especially the outskirts. I would like to see more of Melbourne but there is very poor public transport oppurtunities across Vic.... Vot John Howard out then this next election as p.t ticket prices have just gone up again.
  5. because he dint know what his doing the government are idiot
  6. having a good thought in mind to creat pollution free zone but forgetting that without linking more facilities can not be given to the people residing in that area.
