Shipping car from CA to Oahu, but how to get car to CA?

I know about shipping my car from California to Hawaii with Matson, but how do I get my car to California? Would it be cheaper to drive my car there then fly to Oahu from CA? Or would it be cheaper just to get my car transported to CA from New Orleans and then fly from New Orleans to CA then to HI?

  1. As you already know about the pricing for shipping your car from Cali to Hawaii, it can be pricey. Im not sure exactly what would be cheaper. Im guessing it would probably be cheaper with driving to California because you pay for gas, food, hotel (or if you know people along the southwestern states). Transporting your car may cost a lot too because it seems like all the shipping companies charge a lot. You can find online good deals probably if you don't want to travel across the country or if you don't have that time to do it. I shipped my car with Horizon lines about 1 month ago and I have to say that I was very satisfied with them. Some people wait a long time to wait for their car (2-3 weeks), I waited about 6 days. It shipped on saturday and i picked it up on Friday. To ship it that Saturday, you must have it there before Wednesday at 3pm. Also, flying from LAX in Cali could be cheaper than from flying at New Orleans to Hawaii. Flying to HI is expensive, my ticket was 300 one way from LAX to Honolulu with Hawaiian Airlines, though you could find something cheaper with AA or United in Cali. I dont know about the prices from New Orleans to HI, I'm assuming it would be more since its farther away. Oh and Horizon Lines charged me about 1150 and they ship in containers which i recommend so your car doesn't suffer any rust or erosion on the ship over here. Shipmyvehicle.com is where to start with that company, their website looks funky to me though but it's legit and good service. Anyhow good luck, if you have plenty of time to get everything organized and situated before you move here, than you should be fine.
  2. Shipping is cheaper than driving. Ship the car from Nawlins. Unless you have a lot of free time and a lot of gas money, then take I-10 all the way across to Santa Monica, then to Long Beach.
