  1. yes, there are buses and jitneys(small bus) You pay only a dollar or two. And of course there is always a taxi. I would try the bus/jitney and see if this is for you. Once I got there, I would find out how much a car would be to rent for a day or two. We saw many tourists in limos. I thought they were somebody famous but they were just regular people. We traveled with 5 people and we did take a limo from Paradise Island to Nassau for dinner/shopping and the cost cheaper than the taxi ($25) It was fun in the limo. You got to do it once. Enjoy your trip)
  2. Yes, It's preferable. Taxis are readily available, Jitneys run every few minutes 6am -7pm for $1, and the Ferry to Paradise Isalnd only costs $4. It's very easy to get around without a car.
  3. No car is neessary... plus the taxi drivers can tell you about the best places to go and sights to see
  4. It is cheaper because the average rate for a taxi is 40per day, while public transport is $1. The advantage of public transport is that all the buses stop to a central area (Down Town), which make it extremely difficult to get lost. The bus drivers (and sometimes other passengers) are friendly and willing to help you find your way around The disadvantage is that they are not on a schedule so you could be waiting a long time for a bus. Buses don't run 24/7 (6am-&pm), so if you want to go out at night it is better to rent a car or call a taxi
  5. I got around with a taxi when I was there and I got to places just fine and I didn't think they were dirty either.
  6. Yes we have a public bus system made of "jitneys". These are 21 seater vans and they can take you into most parts of the city for one dollar.....Be careful because only parts of the city are safe to walk about.
  7. Rental cars in Nassau are very expensive and they do drive on the opposite side of the road than the US you are better off not renting a vehicle. Jitneys are cheap, easy to use and fun to ride.
