Newyork Sightseeing public transport or car rental?

Hi we will be in NYC for 2 days and planning to stay at Renaissance near Newark Airport. We would like to visit Manhattan and statue of liberty. We will be flying in and out from JFK. Should we rent a car or take public transport? what option will be convenient or cheaper? Should we stay near JFK? Thanks we will be having 4-5 bags of luggage and a toddler. How do we get from JFK to Newark Hotel? Shuttle or car rental? will i be able to take all my bags in public transport? Thanks Slam1502000, Pellegrino for your input. How to reach from Newark Airport/Renaisaance to Liberty State Park? any ideas?

  1. I would say Public transportation. Its fast and much cheaper. NYC has the best Public transportaion in the nation. You can save a lot of gas as well.
  2. Definitely use public transportation. Check to see if the hotel has a shuttle to Newark's Penn Station. If they do, then you're set. Newark to NYC is just a 15 minute train ride or you can take the downtown PATH subway train from Newark and get to the WTC in about 25 minutes. If your hotel reservation is still flexible, I'd see about changing to the Marriott, Hyatt, or Double Tree in Jersey City. They are located above subway stations. You can get in and out of Manhattan very easily and you can get there from JFK by taking a bus to Manhattan and then transferring to the PATH subway. From JFK to Newark you can take the airport shuttle bus or you can take the airporter limo.
  3. My friend, in regards on how to get from Newark Airport/Renaissance Hotel to Liberty State Park, here are the travel directions. Step 1: from the hotel, take the shuttle bus to the Newark Airport. Step 2: at the Newark Airport, transfer to the Newark Airtrain. Take the Airtrain to the Newark-Liberty Airport train station. Step 3: at the Newark-Liberty Airport train station, transfer the the NJ Transit. Take any Hoboken or New York-bound train from the Newark-Liberty Airport to Newark Penn Station. Step 4: at Newark Penn Station, transfer to the PATH train. Take the westbound train from Newark Penn Station to Exchange Place. Step 5: at Exchange Place, transfer to Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. Take the southbound trolley car from Exchange Place to Liberty State Park. The fare are as follow: Hotel shuttle: Free NJ Transit/Newark Airtrain: $7.75 one way a person (including an access fee of $5.50 on the exit and enter the Airtrain at the Newark-Liberty Airport Train station). PATH : $2 way a person Hudson-Bergen Light Rail: $1.90 one way a person I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck Native New Yorker
