Can a UK citizen buy a car in the USA and drive it in Canada (on a 1 year Canadian working holiday visa)?
If it is possible where does the vehicle need to be registered/ insured. In general are cars cheaper in the US or Canada? We are visiting Canada for a year but arriving via NYC and are trying to decide if it is better to buy a car in NYC or to get to Canada via public transport and then purchase a car there...

- get a temp license from an insurance agent and then register it in Canada.....whereever you decide to stay you should have insurance there....and since you will be in Canada you should have insurance locally instead of internatioally
- you will need to register it in Canada, get Canadian plates and insurance (and it will be expensive) bring a driving record with you that shows how many years you have had your drivers license. The more years you can show, the cheaper your insurance might be.
- NO Deport illegals, and keep the dream alive.
- You may be better off buying the car in Canada, even though it will likely cost more than buying it in the US. Bringing an American car across the border means you are importing it, and there are regulations concerning the importing of foreign cars. It may be cheaper to buy in the US, but you may have to have some work done on it before you can register it in Canada. Check out the link below to see what all is involved.
