I'm only 18 years old, but i've been trying to find a job as an owner/operator of a 1 ton dual wheel pickup. Ever place i've called, such as classic transport and other companies contracting to travel trailer & automotive carriers, etc. has a minimum age of 25 or 21 on their insurance. What else can i do to make money with this truck? What would be a good place to get cargo insurance from that wouldn't be rediculously expensive to me so I could transport cars/trailers/cattle etc. myself? Thank you for your responses. Yea I thought about it because scrap is so high, but there is a lot to learn to actually make enough money to make it worth while, with the cost of the truck and all. I see 1 ton duallys pulling 3 car haulers all day long with 2 or 3 cars on the back, there has got to be a market for it and it seems the going rate is pretty decent too at about .85 to 1.35 a mile. I just don't know where to start looking for contracts or how to talk, for example, a rv dealership into a contract.
