What ever happened to the Segway Human Transporter?

Last I heard it was being tested by the US Post Office. It hasn't become a transportation sensation. Why not? Tough to pick a best answer. Thanx to all!

  1. Probably because it makes its rider look like a colossal doofus.
  2. still out there and alot of airports use them
  3. The first guys who used it got beat up.
  4. They have just released some new models. They still cost 20,000, and only get up to 12.5 mph.
  5. The Chicago Police use them.
  6. Whenever I got to lunch I usually see a caravan of tourists on those things. If it weren't for that, I'd be asking the same exact question.
  7. they are still around. There is a distributer in Hurst Texas.they haven't caught on because they are expensive
  8. I live in Chicago and they actually have Segway tours of downtown and the police force here uses them for patrol of small areas. I remember how the inventor came and said it would change the way we get around. Just watching these things go around the city people look like dorks on them and they can't go up stairs.
  9. Too expensive, too heavy and cumbersome, and too dorky. Still not as efficient a machine for moving people around as a bicycle, which is one of the most perfect machines ever invented. But I hear Segway is coming out with a new model, so they haven't given up yet.
  10. Security at my alma mater college, Caltech, uses it to zoom around. Yes, I pointed and laughed. It's practical, though, because the walkways are wide and there's good visibility. It's not a transportation sensation because it can't practically be used on existing roads, and there aren't enough wide walkways and sidewalks with good visibility! Also it's expensive.
