What are the Department of Transportation requirements for shipping smoke detectors back to the manufacturer?

I could not find anything, though someone with more expertise may be able to find the answer. Nevertheless, if you call the manufacturer and ask whether they need to meet any federal requirements when shipping smoke detectors in the first place, then you'd be able to meet those standards when you ship them back.
