Location Transport

Can someone please describe the location of the crankshaft position sensor on a 2003 Nissan Altima?

I purchased the sensor after the OBD II equipment stated that there was a problem with it, and replaced a sensor that is exactly the same on the drivers side. I have a feeling that I got the camshaft sensor and not the one with the problem, therefore I need to know where the crankshaft sensor is so I can replace the right one. Dealership confirmed that the part number for both is the same but could not give me a diagram or help on the location... Thanks in advance! 2.5L engine Thanks to everyone that replied... I found and replaced the sensor. o Confirmed that camshaft & crankshaft position sensors are the same. o Crankshaft position sensor is a lot more difficult to replace as it is hidden under the engine and very difficult to access from both under the car & from under the hood. o Be careful with the connector to the sensor. Since you don't see the connector at any time and the clip is different to the camshaft sensor you can break the connector. I broke mine and had to find another connector at the dealership and adapt it by cutting and soldering 3 wires.

  1. The crank angle sensor is either on the timing cover or the bellhousing depending on your car. Check this recall related to Nisssan 2003 Model 350Z, where: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS. http://www.asaleris.com/2003-2/Crank%20Position%20Sensor.html
  2. for 1 dealership lied to u..even tho i dont have nissan ... GM gave me print-out for engine parts for my car..the name of part and where its located ....crank and cam senor should be close to each other...look where u belt is..the bigger pulley..it has teeth that fit thru the groove of the crankshaft sensor...cam sensor works thru another magnet that on the camshaft gear of ur timin..
