what is Shipping and Logistics industry how do i analyze it?

i have to write a case study analysis and in one of the requirements, what i have to analyze is the industry; Shipping and Logistics. anyone knows a good link that can lead me to that? or could give me some pointers on how am i supposed to analyze the industry, as in specifically, what information should i look for. so far i'm thinking that knowing the market capital, total number of employees, quarterly revenue growth, net income of the industry should do the trick. but i don't believe that just those datas are enough. help me out, please?

1. Federal Express. Maybe the U.S. Postal Service, which would involve mail, packages and may be the most forthcoming in its quasi-governmental role.
2. Data is a good start. However, what you should also do is SWOT analysis or at least PEST analysis. Use Porter's 5 forces, and also try to find out the drivers of the industry and what the future holds. You can also focus on indicators like % of contribution to GDP, and stock market performance for the sectors. Lastly, if you have good data you can analyze the ability of this industry to remain profitable during shocks in the economic environment. Examples are wars and recession. Hope that helps.
