What is the best way to get from the Galleria in Houston to Minute Maid Park using public transportation?
I'll be in Houston in August to see the New York Mets play the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. I'll be staying at the Sheraton Suites Houston near The Galleria. I'd prefer using public transportation to get to and from the games. Does anyone have any specific advice on the best way to get from the hotel to the ballpark? I already have a rent a car, but I don't like driving to and from baseball games. Especially at night and in areas I'm not familiar with. Hence, my question.

- Houston is my home town, so when I saw this question, I just had to comment on it. Maybe rent a car.
- take a bus (not sure of the number) to the downtown area and hop on the railline that runs down main street. It won't get you completely there since it is a line that runs no-where (in my opinon) but it will get you about 3-4 blocks from Minute maid park. Be sure to take out a small loan so you can have a beer/soda and food. Prices are expensive there. Have fun.
- Bus...#53 picks up on the Neiman Marcus side of the Galleria and is a little faster or the #82 picks up anywhere on Westheimer. You'll have to walk a few blocks downtown to get to the ballpark or find a trolly route to get you there. It's been a long time since I've had to ride the bus so I don't know fares, but I know the routes are still the same. It is relatively safe, however, drivers are not pedestrian friendly in this city so beware. Houston metro website http://www.ridemetro.org
- Julie“s answer was good. You can take the 82 bus on Westheimer to Main street. Then you hop on the light rail at Main St. That will take you downtown a few blocks from the Minute Maid Park. However, you should be aware that houston is NOT a public transport city and August is horribly hot and humid. It will be a very uncomfortable trip. But YAY for trying to use the public transport.
