How much is the shipping cost to send a laptop from US to the Philippines?

How much will cost to send a laptop from US to the Philippines? What's are the incidental cost included in shipping out. Like taxes, etc. What's the courier can you recommend? I've heard that its gonna take like 2 weeks before it reaches here in Phil. Please help. Is it safe to declare it at zero value? what if during in transit the item had been damaged and you declare it at such value, can you ask for indemnity?

  1. Other than the shipping cost that you pay in the US, once the laptop is here it will be caught by the Customs office. Thus, she will need to pay 12% taxes so she can get the laptop. 12% Custom tax-meaning 12% of the declared value. So my advice to you because I experienced this so many times....declare the laptop value 0! Aside from it will not be trapped in the Customs office it will go DIRECT to the receiver. If the receiver in the province it's a big hassle to go to Bureau of Customs in Manila to get the laptop because it is pending for release just because of the declared value. The worst is sometimes Customs officer will ask for additional "under the table" fee and the receiver will be either pissed off or just pay the price. The best way is declare it zero value, it will not be lost or anything anyway because you have the tracking numbers and the only difference is it will not be trapped in the Customs office as I said. Shipping cost depends in whatever shipping company you use, better use Fedex, just find the rate (quote) online....
  2. $ 50.
  3. First of all expect to pay 125 percent value of the laptop. Even if you bought an unexpensive laptop, Customs officials can still put their own price tag on the laptop value and impose a125 percent value. If you ship via FEDEX you may have to pay fees upfront. I WOULD NOT USE FEDEX. I would send the laptop via balikbayan and just put personal effect, on the Customs form. I would also include used clothing, purchased from thrift stores to fill the box up. Check with LBC for additional information concerning Balikbayan box shipping. My wife just sent one from Portland Oregon and it cost us $65.00 to send to Eastern Samar. See link below.
