Location Transport

Why does TX Department of Transportation send you a new license plate after 8 years?

We got one this week and it weirded us out. Plus, it was a LOT of work to take the old one off and put the new one on since the screws rusted through and broke. REALLY annoying.

  1. You partially answered your own question. Mostly it's because the reflective enamel on the plates has around a 7-10 year life spa, depending where you live and the environment. After a few years the paint begins to wear off making it difficult for police to run plate numbers on the move.
  2. Wear, tear and heat probably wears them out.I feel for ya,I got a new TX plates in August and it was hard to change them out,the screws were rusted and they broke off.Had to use zip ties to put the new plates on.lol.
