How is the ignition timing adjusted on a Volkswagon Transporter petrol 2.0 T4? ?

this ones got me buggered, i can't find a manual online and i can't see on the distributor any way that it can be moved back or forth. I'm looking for a way to manually move the rotor/housing/button etc...

  1. What year is this VW? If the car is electronic ignition, then there's NO WAY to adjust it using / turning the distributor. That's from the oil days of mechanical advance, etc. All electronic ignition timing is adjusted using the computer. Good luck...
  2. You have a ' 73 -' 79? remove the access hatch inside the rear of the bus, above the engine. Look down at the dissy toward the front of the bus and a bit rite. Down by the block at that 1:00 position under all that sh...tuff is a long 10mm nut, yes I said nut. It is a nut about 2" long oriented left to right. It'll be under the cold start injector on the side of the intake plenum facing the rear of the bus, as well as obscured by the vacuum advance can on the side of the dissy. Crankcase breathing tower will also be in the way to the rite of the dissy. If you have a ' 72 there is no hatch inside the bus. Everything else is the same just harder to do. Good luck, once you find it it's not hard. A longer 10mm combination wrench works for me.
