  1. You might try IOSCAR; it's free. It asks you questions and suggests occupations based on your interests, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It also has a lot of information on opportunities in different occupations.
  2. Fuck no! Go to college. Get an education! Make some money!
  3. Hope it works out for ya. Good Luck!
  4. Well it depends on what you want to do, but I wouldn't want to be a truck driver. You have to drive all night, it'd be very tiring...
  5. go to college you fool.
  6. i dont think so
  7. My son had three years experience driving(owner operator) works for allied transport(Teamster)gets a % of haul (Commercial trucks, etc), full benefits, etc... made $250,000 last year-top guy made $350,000-screw college unless engineering, premed, law or mba or phd in everything else.
  8. Swifts not a bad company what they'll ask if you sign a contract to stay on for a year. they'll take the cost of driving school out of your paychecks so that's why the full year. I don't remember what they pay per mile not much your first year but this is a business where you got to pay your dues! meaning not many people will talk to you about a driving job until you have a years experience. If what you really want is to OTR then go for it and talk to other drivers. maybe after the first year you'll get a better job. but either way you still need the experience. why believe me about all this. up until 2003 I was a driving instructor at one of those driving schools
  9. Swift is an awful choice for anybody no matter what experience. The company and its drivers are laughed at in the trucking industry. They are just way to big to be able to care about you and give you the miles and hometime you are going to want every month. My suggestion would be find the smallest company that will let you in the door. You do have to get experience somewhere and having your training paid for up front is nice but there is alot of companies that offer these things. You can go to a site like bubbajunk.com or truckjobs.com and see what companys provide training or go to a truckstop and get a job booklet and make alot of calls and decide who is going to give you the best deal. Stevens Transport I know takes inexperienced drivers but I'm not sure if the cover the training costs, but anyway they are a decent company and there are several like them. Just stay away from swift and when you have some experience get to a small carrier who will get you home and will run you hard when your gone.
