How many miles per gallon does a 68' to 77' vw transporter bay window bus get?

just curious.

  2. I struggle to get 20 1. Its a friggin box 2. You have to hammer it to hang in the right hand lane
  3. We had a 68 and we got around 25 to 29 mpg. Loved to drive that bus. Wish I had it back.
  4. 68 - 71 = 1600 beetle engine. 72 - 79 = 1.7L - 2.0L type 4 engine. Early had dual carburetors, later engines had fuel injection. In a camper (a little bit heavier than a transporter) I get roughly 15-20. It is a 78 2L with single Weber Progressive carburetor and electric fuel pump. For later engines like mine, if you have working fuel injection you would probably get better mileage, but it is common for people to get rid of all the fuel injection parts and install a manifold and carburetor.
