Where is the engine number on a VW Transporter T4?

I've looked, but it isn't where it normaly should be

1. on the engine??
2. i'm only guessing but i'd try................................................... ON THE ENGINE?
3. on the engine above the crankshaft pulley stamped into the block
4. On the VW T4 Transporter:- Engine numbers The engine number is stamped on the front of the engine block. On the Petrol engine the number is located below two of the spark plugs. The engine number is also shown on the timing belt cover and on the ID plate on the door pillar. On the Diesel engine the number is located between the injection pump and the vacuum pump. And is also shown on the timing belt cover and on the ID plate on the door pillar. 5. USUALLY THE ENGINE # IS ON A MACHINED PAD ON VW CASE HALVES.
6. Read your owners manual.....it will tell you where to look
7. it should be on a sticker on the top of the cambelt cover and should be three letters like awt good luck!
