Location Transport

Kissimmee - What's it like for non-drivers?

Hi everyone. How easy or otherwise is it to walk around the main tourist area? Obviously transport needs to be arranged to Disney (but I know a Lynx bus goes here) but do I really need a car when I am there once I get to the area from the airport? Also how do I get to the International Drive area if my hotel doesnt have a shuttle bus?

  1. Hi, it's pretty easy to get around down there. I've been to kissimmee six times and I've never rented a car. Everyone has shuttles going to and from the attractions ect. Even if your hotel doesn't provide shuttle service, find a hotel near yours that does and hop on board!! Enjoy your trip...oh there's a travel company called Mears that's awesome for pick ups from the airport.
  2. Your best bet is to rent a car, since your not from here the Lynx bus service can be very confusing. I lived here most my life and rely on the bus pretty much 90% of the time, if you insist on relying on the bus and not having a car i recommend call ahead for fixed route bus service. Basically you call 407-841-5969 tell then where your at such as the road your staying on and where you wanna go. They will assist you on what bus to take to get there. Depending on where your at you only have to take a couple of buses. I live in Kissimmee and it only takes me 2 buses to get to disney. But be reminded that the bus makes a stop at about every mile or so to pick someone up so sometimes it will talk forever to get there. Also the advantage of having your own car which I recommend so you wont have to take the shuttle bus. I warn you don't take the shuttle bus unless you have no other choice, there is a reason why it's free. It's free because that shuttle bus is going to stop at about 6 hotels or so and it takes forever to get to disney. It would be less of a hassle to just drive to disney or wherever you wanna go or just pick a hotel that is close to disney so if you take a taxi it wont be too expensive. But also be in mind that the closer you are to the parks the more expensive your resort/hotel may be. Your best bet would be to check on hotels.com for the best rates. Enjoy your vacation! I hope this was helpful :) Robb
  3. The Lynx transportation is your answer to all your questions. First off yes you can walk around everywhere but the Wonderful world of Disney itself. They frown on you trying to walk on the grass or the roads from one park to another. There really is not any reason to do so anyway. At Disney World you can ride all over on the Disney Transport buses for FREE. Now to get from the airport to I-Drive as we locals lovingly call International Drive, you can ride Lynx bus #42 from the airport to most of I-Drive. The #8 Lynx bus will take you the rest of the way and even to Sea World Universal and Disney World. Well for Disney World you will have to transfer to the #50 bus in front of Sea World. So you may want to seriously consider getting a Lynx bus pass for $14.00 to use for a week while you are here in Orlando and it does not just open you up to traveling around Orlando but you can use it to get to five counties here in the central Florida area. Only transportation cheaper would be the trolley that runs up and down I-Drive but it does not go to Orlando International Airport.
  4. skipper points out how to get around locally. i would think of renting a car a portion or all of the days. cars are cheap there/ do a priceline. you'll have fredom to go / come as you please. won't have to eat in the park , pay inflated prices and will see more. there is a ton of walking around to do and it's hot.
  5. Depending on where your hotel is located, then you will be able to get around to pretty much everywhere. Hotels in the US192 and Lake Buena Vista area only provide free shuttle transportation to Disney. Going to anywhere else will cost you. You can definitely take the Lynx bus, which is cheap, but it can take you longer to get from one place to another, and depending on where you are and where you're going, you might even need to do some transfers (meaning getting off the bus and getting on a different route). The best area to be located at, as far as hotel goes, its by the Sea World area. Most hotels in this zone offer free transportation to Disney and to Universal too! Not only that, but you are right next to International Drive, which from there you can use the I-Ride Trolley which will take you for only $1.00!! Other than that, transportation to anywhere else like the Airport, some malls or attractions, or at late hours will have to be by taxi and therefore cost you.
