Bodybuilding Question(s)?
I wanna start bodybuilding but I dont have the luxury of a personal trainer. I'm a young guy in my 20's, my goal isnt to be the next Mr.Olympia, I just want to get jacked. Maybe, I dunno, Like Jean Claude Van Damme in his prime, Jasan Statham in Transporter 1,2,3 or Mark Wahlberg back when he was Marky Mark. Lol, sorry for the terrible examples but those are the best visuals I could give as to my long term goal. How do bodybuilders get and stay motivated to train? Where can I find all the scientific and training info I need to successfully bodybuild on my own ? Heather. Thank you but I know that. Lol. I'm talking about sources where I can find things like diets or workout routines that are the most efficient. lol

- well it will take alot of motivation, unless you become addicted or your hobby involves strength training. SO if your interested in becomeing bigger first realise it will take longer than just 5 mins it will take about 40mins a day everyday for 3 or 4 months. Well do compound exersizes. get a bar and do pullups, wide grip pull ups, chin ups, leg raisers, handstands, handstand pushups, pushups, muscleups, one leg pistols, that will work just fine :)
- i totally understand where you are coming from... i began my journey knowing i never wanted to look like arnie... i was going more for an usher or ryan reynolds look... cut... but not a freak! you dont need a personal trainer, you just need a gym, a good diet plan and to stick to it! i do 1 hour a day 5-6 times a week on these days i exercise different muscle groups. shoulders monday, chest/triceps tuesday, abs wednesday, biceps thursday back friday, i do legs on a saturday - but i have to be honest if im going to miss a day this is the one i miss lol the idea is to push the muscle as hard as you can, 5 sets of 8-12 reps on each exercise... we break the muscle down actually causing microscopic tears in the fibre, then we go home and eat a whole load of protein and rest - it is in this time the protein is used for your body to build new muscle tissue where we caused the damage and your muscle grows - it can take 7-10 days for a muscle to heal after a heavy session so try not to train the same body parts repeatedly thinking more is better... this is counter productive its hard to get motivated at first - your motivation will come in 2-3 months time when you notice it is working and your goal is not an impissible target
- I think that Craig has given you some excellent advice.I like reading Ironman magazine, especially some of the old ones. Don't fall for the supplement hype.
- Ironman, Muscle & Fitness, Planet Muscle, Beverly Nutrition's No-Nonsense Newsletter, etc. are all valuable sources for diet & workout information, in addition to the motivation they provide. You can also check online forums like http://forum.mesomorphosis.com/ for useful information. Of particular note is Planet Muscle & the No Nonsense Newsletter, as they both aim for the "natural", realistic bodybuilder & endorse products with good reputation & success. Digest info with a healthy amount of skepticism. If some product ad catches your eye in a magazine, check the source on pubmed.gov or medscape.com (sites that have free publications of studies or abstracts of studies). With that in mind, never consider a singular source authoritative. Studies can be poorly designed & executed, improperly interpreted, & regularly contradict one another. Ads often cite studies that can't be found or which produced different results than advertised. Pro bodybuilders can be a good source of "real world" knowledge but some of them give advice that only an advanced lifter or pharmaceutically enhanced giant can follow (bear this in mind while reading Ironman, Muscle & Fitness, etc.). Talk to other bodybuilders at your gym or online about training duration & frequency, exercises for muscle groups, effective supplements, diet strategies, & other methods to maximize your time to achieve desired results. Good luck. If you need more info, email me. The world of health & fitness is exciting & confusing.
