  1. An All-Day Passport ($11) is sold by the conductors on the cable cars. For buses, just pay the $1.50 and get a transfer, which is good for a few hours. For BART, I think you have to either have a monthly Fast Pass or you need to buy individual tickes. If you're spending most of your time in the City, the buses and cable cars is all you'll need to ride.
  2. I believe there is a 7day pass that allows you to take the bus all day long, it also I think allows you to visit museums for free. As to the cost of this pass I think its like $50 but I might be mistaken. Its Called the city pass. here is the link to the website that would help you get the information. http://www.365tickets.com/prodhubs.cfm/productId/45
  3. there are such tourist passes. there's a tourist information shop outside the powell bart station that sells them.
  4. The public transportation system in the San Francisco Bay Area is comprehensive. However, there are many competing companies and fare structures, which makes it considerably more confusing than places with "umbrella organizations" like New York and Chicago. MUNI buses, streetcars, and cable cars operates within San Francisco proper only. MUNI only passes cost: $11 - One Day Passport $18 - Three Day Passport $24 - Seven Day Passport $45 - Monthly Pass ----------- The BART subway system connects San Francisco to the East Bay suburbs and the international airport. Fares are calculated by distance. BART offers a high value 14-day combination ticket that allows for unlimited MUNI use, as well as a variable amount of subway fare. It is called a "BART Plus" pass: $38 minimum to $71 maximum (depends on the amount of stored subway fare). If you're like most tourists, you'll only use the subway for the airport and a visit to Berkeley University -- which means the $43 BART Plus should suffice. ----------- CALTRAIN is a commuter rail that runs from San Francisco to San Jose. Like BART, fares are calculated based on distance. Caltrain does not offer any special fares other than monthly passes for commuters and other concessions. Monthly passes range from $29.75 to $291.50, depending on the station of origin and destination. --------------- The ferries are operated by a bunch of different companies (Blue and Gold, Red and White, Baylink, Golden Gate Transit). Ferry companies rarely offer any special fares, and as with CALTRAIN, the monthly passes are only of interest to commuters.
  5. http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/passports.htm SF Municipal Railway includes buses, trolleys, metro trains, cable cars serving City & Co of SF. To access the Metro downtown in the subway, go to the 2nd level down. (BART trains run on tracks 3rd level down in the same subway.)
