Stagecoach has put their fares up again as from today. Isn't it time for the renationalisation of buses?
This is in Newcastle, where fares under £1 are going up by 5p for the 2nd time in a year. They are going up by 10p for fares over £1. Neither Labour, the Lib Dems or the Tories have made pledges to take back control of public transport in their local government manifestos. I often wait up to half an hour to get a bus into the city centre. Does this not show that transport deregulation does not work?

- No industry in this country will ever be renationalised in our lifetimes. Too many people like profit.
- I was a bus driver in Manchester (FirstBus) and of course I agree with you. But buses were never nationalised in the UK. Most large cities had municipal buses, run by the Council. Other areas had private monopolies, but the councils insisted the timetables were adequate and sensible.
- Count yourself lucky - in Aberdeen (First buses), the cheapest ticket is now £1.30, and the day ticket has gone up by 50p from £3 to £3.50. And the service is terrible, the drivers are rude etc etc....
- A Dave from the Grave My name is Dave and I’m a Stagecoach driver. I’m no snob, it’s a super job That other drivers sigh for. I drive all day And save my pay I’m not a nine ‘til fiver. Along the route My horn I’ll toot My life is one you’d die for. My Dad is Dave, he also is a Stagecoach driver He’s one of us He loves his ‘bus It’s something he will die for. A lean machine He keeps it clean Perfection he will cry for. His Dad was Dave, the original Stagecoach driver. He was quite a lad, he chased my Dad In races they would tie for. So little power Ten miles per hour Was all that they could try for. My son is Dave, he too will be a Stagecoach driver. It’s in his blood This livlihood He will be no skiver. He’s no slob He will make a bob or two, perhaps a fiver. Girls he’ll seduce Whilst on the loose It’s something he’s not shy for. I’m the ghost of Dave who used to be a Stagecoach driver. Route 007 I drive in Heaven It’s what I gave my life for. God lets me drive Like when alive It’s what I’m here on high for! http://davidheath.fotopic.net/
- I don't know really. Nationalisation would take a lot of money from the government, which they don't have due to bad spending. On the other hand, maybe it's a good idea as it would encourage people to use public transport instead of destroying the environment.
- the answer ..maybe..... but give 10 points to pix well done you ..lol me dont use bus so not sure of fares here..to be fair ... glesga (glasgow )
- buses are wonderful for the environment for car pooling and a transit should be set up but for security purposes the countries states should be split into a continents countries in which instant people would be able to get more for their buck for lack of a better term.
