What are the modes of public transportation in Shenzhen, China ?
I know that I can travel by train from Hongkong to Shenzhen. Are there public transportation in Shenzhen ? I cannot speak the Chinese language but I am fluent in English - do you think I would have difficulty in going around. In 2007, I was part of a tour group that went to Shenzhen. That time, we were in a tourist coaster with an English speaking guide. This time, I want to travel alone. Any advise/suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

- Shenzhen has more crime problems then before. Take a cab and be careful. Cabbies do not speak English so have your destination in Chinese. Hiring a driver is not very expensive in China. Perhaps you should consider this.
- I've been to Shenzhen a couple of times, there are buses, taxis and a metro system, i'll advise you to use the metro as its the less expensive mean to move through the main points of the city and the indications are in, both, english and chinese. I found it the easiest mean to use, the tickets cost between 3 to 7 RMB. And if you have to go to some place out of the metro routes, its better to have someone, at your hotel, to write down the address in chinese as most of the taxi drivers don't speak english. Good trip! [if you need some more infos, feel free to mail me]
- Just like other big cities, ShenZhen has all kind of public transportation, like bus, taxi, subway and train to Hong kong and other cities.
- I was just there last week for work. We took the train from hong kong into shenzhen. Fortunately I had people with me who speak the language fluently....I would not go alone. You should hire a guide. It's nothing like hong kong where you're fine speaking just english.
