Pain in different location after appendix removal?

My husband just had his appendix taken out today laparascopically. He had it done early in the morning and was sent home about 12 hours later. He says he has pain in his lower abdomen from the surgery but says he also has pain in his upper stomach as well. I never had my appendix out so I don't know if this is normal. Is this typical after appendix removal or is this something to be concerned about? He is supposed to call his surgeon for a follow up appointment tomorrow morning but is this something that should be checked out sooner through the ER or something? Please no rude answers. Thank you.

  1. I would say just call the doctor on call for the night just to check if the pain is father than discomfort, better safe than sorry.
  2. go to the ER, he may have internal bleeding.inside stitches burst or anything can happen, just go to the hospital now.
  3. I had my gallbladder out the same way and was sent home 2 hours later. I hurt everywhere. But, it absolutely cannot hurt to call the surgeon and describe his pain. They have someone on call specifically for that kind of thing. Oh, don't be surprised if he continues to have pain in the area where his appendix was. I still get "phantom" pains around my gallbladder region, the doc said it will continue for months. Yay. Good luck.
  4. truth: go to the er
  5. I had my appendix removed about 6 months ago. I just had some discomfort around where my appendix was, which they said was normal and my incisions hurt. He will have pain where his appendix was from the surgery, but the pain in the upper stomach, that's not normal. I was told before I went home from the hospital that if I got severe pain where my appendix was or if I got pain anywhere else around there, like in my stomach, that I was supposed to go to the ER. If he is in alot of severe pain then I'd suggest that he go to the ER. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  6. i had abdominal wall hernia repair and was told that if i ended up with bad abdominal pain that i need to go to the er and if i had a fever like asap, cause there is a risk of internal bleeding and my doc says that if the damage the colon in any way it can be very bad cause it may not show up till hours later or even a couple days., so i would call an on call doc and talk to them unless he is in bad pain and has fever go to the er
