How do I transport shrimps and maintain its freshness? The travel time usualy last for 14 hours.?
I am planning to transport 60 kilos of shrimps for my restaurant from a province. The means of transportation to get to that province is through a provincial bus and the travel time is usually 14 hours. I have styrofoam thermostat but I'm not sure if it can help to maintain the shrimps freshness. I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thank you. AJ

- Did you think of freeze in a milk cartoon. The half gallon ones. Fill up with about half shrimps and the rest water and freeze until the day you are ready to leave. Than put in to the cooler. Mother did this when we left Fla. to WI. It work for us. That was a trip of 30 hours.
- Ice themdown. Fill an ice chest 2/3-full of shrimp, then top off w/ ice. Stop about half-way and drain off melted ice and add more ice.
- Depending on where you and your destination you may be able to just throw some bags of ice on them because the weather is so cold these days in the North and Midwest. If you are lucky enough to be headed towards Arizona or Florida, you should freeze them first. Next put them in you containers to transport. Make sure If you are using coolers to ice the bottom of the cooler before you add the shrimp and then top off with ice. The best suggestion would be to use dry ice. I guarantee they will stay fresh with dry ice. Just make sure that you seal the styrofoam top with tape to keep in the cold.
